I do wonder about the indexing function...if I turn the K2 off entirely, does it delete the index and force reindexing when I turn it on again? That would certainly explain my problem.
That would explain why one CS rep told me not to turn the unit off, just put it to sleep. |

But, I see NO reason to turn it off unless you plan to not use it for several days. So, just put it to sleep or just put it down and it will sleep after 10 mins or so all on its own. I never turn mine off and the battery lasts a few weeks with my reading patterns. Then again, I don't store more than 20 or so "to-read" books on it. So the indexing won't take hours... which I have heard is possible if you have 1GB or so of ebooks on it. BOb |

I *have* had times where my K2 seemed to "forget" all its indexes. But they're all there. And a quick reboot brings them right back. There are some poorly-formatted books out there that are in monospace font where every line ends in a hyphenated word that runs on to the next line. Kindle seems to get stuck on indexing those, and will do so over and over again, draining the battery on those. Those are too annoying to read anyway and should be deleted. |

Soooo...it appears that if the Kindle cannot index a particular ebook, it just keeps trying and runs down the battery.
How dumb is THAT??? Even I can figure out that if a book can't be indexed, it should be tagged as such in the index file so the Kindle doesn't keep spinning its wheels trying. Sheesh. |

While I agree from an engineering perspective, those books are improperly formatted as I described and aren't exactly kosher. Amazon has no real motivation to support them.
