I sure can. Jeffery Deaver is a great mystery author and his Lincoln Rhyme character (The Empty Chair) is one of the most complex characters in modern mystery literature. Get it while you can.

I second this recommendation on the Lincoln Rhyme series.
Maybe you saw the movie The Bone Collector, which is adapted from his book.

I agree--Jeffrey Deaver is one of my favorites! I've read all his Lincoln Ryme novels--they're very well written. Looking forward to reading Roadside Crosses.

Because of all your glowing reviews of the author, I broke down and bought the book. Now I'm awaiting my code for the freebie.

Thanks guys...... grumble grumble more money spent on books!

I've seen the movie and read the book and compared to the book, the movie was awful. I did really enjoy reading The Bone Collector though. So even if you have seen the movie and not enjoyed it, give the book a try.

I agree that the movie did not do the book justice. Awful? Maybe, but movies seldom live up to the impact of the written original.

I often wonder why that is. When I read a book I can usually see the story unfolding as in a movie. When I see a movie that is based on that book, it barely resembles the story that I remember reading.

The movie is often disappointing.

I do think Danzel Washington and Angelina Jolie were good for the leads. And it's quite easy to picture Danzel as you read the series. It's just that the movie left out a lot and changed some. So you get a more complete satisfying read from The Bone Collector.

I saw the movie first before even knowing it was a book. It was a bit of a surprise to find out the Rhyme is actually causasian and his nurse is actually male. Kind of like most Michael Connelly fans don't seem to like the Blood Work movie because they changed the perp! That's Hollywood. I actually recommend you read The Empty Chair first. I am kind of surprised they are offering The Sleeping Doll instead which is the book that introduces the main character in Roadside Crosses.

The book vs the movie

The old saying about the book being better than the movie is pretty much correct in all cases - except one. Watch "The Man Who Would be King" (Sean Connery and Michael Cane) and then read the Rudyard Kipling story. The original Kipling story is nowhere near as good a story as the movie screenplay. Jonh Huston did a bangup job on the screenplay, fleshing out Kipling's story quite a bit.

OTOH, watching the Brother Cadfael TV series and the Miss Marple TV series years ago prompted me to read the books, which fit the pattern and were better than the videos. Not that the videos were bad.

I would recommend reading the "Lincoln Rhyme" series in order. Don't start with "The Empty Chair".
