"Shapes" (circles around words) moving after conversion

Hi. I've created an eBook conversion using Calibre which I find came out quite good (took me around a dozen attempts with lots of tweaking of my Word doc). I used Word 2010 > Web Page > MOBI. My question is this; when I converted the Web Page to Mobi the circles I placed around certain words and symbols on my screen shots moved.

Is there some way to lock such objects in place?

Thanks!

Rich

  1. You can convert .docx directly in calibre.
  2. Use an image of the word/symbol with the circle around it.

While not a circle:
Couldn't you use a Span with a border around the word

Code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.1//EN"
    "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml11/DTD/xhtml11.dtd">

<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
<style>
.box { margin: 0 .1em;padding:.1em; border-color: black;
border-width: 1; border-style: solid;
}
</style>
<head>
<title></title>
</head>
<body>
<p> </p>
<p>Words in a <span class="box">box</span> if needed</p>
</body>
</html>

I must try that direct conversion to see how it comes out.

Not sure I understand the second suggestion. I'm doing screen shots of Word menus.

You mean, import the image, put the circle in the right place, and do a second screen shot?

OK, did the screen capture+colored ring then another screen capture. Worked like a charm!

Thanks guys, really very helpful.
