There's quite a stack of new freebies today.

First up, B&H Publishing has made a bunch of Beth Moore books available for free, but different books are free at different stores. If you get free books from Christianbook, remember to download them right away; they have a bad habit of removing download links from free books in your library when they're no longer free.

Fight: A Christian Case for Non-Violence by Preston Sprinkle
Publisher page

Quote:
Fight explores violence in the Bible and challenges us to live out Jesus’ call to non-violence. With prophetic relevance, New York Times bestselling author Preston Sprinkle tackles the controversy surrounding violence and grapples with surprising conclusions. Anyone who has struggled with the morality of violence will appreciate this convincing biblical guide.
Better: How Jesus Satisfies the Search for Meaning by Tim Chaddick with Craig Borlase
Publisher page

Quote:
“What does it take to find satisfaction? Will I ever find something in life that’s better than this?”

Most people live a life they never would have planned. The good news is that coming to the end of their expectations means they’re on the brink of great wisdom, peace, and joy. That’s what the ancient author of Ecclesiastes helps us figure out—it is quite possible to face detours and dead-ends in life and still find more satisfaction than you ever could have imagined.

Better explores the mysteries, scandalous lines, and deep truths of Ecclesiastes and applies them to life today. Better seeks to show how the questions of the heart find their answer in the person of Jesus. Here you will find a vision of life that is neither naive nor cynical, but realistic and hopeful. Because the truth is, when God answers the questions, you finally realize what is better.
Everything the Bible Says About Prayer: How do I know God hears my prayers? What should I ask for when I pray? What does God say about worshiping in prayer? How should I pray for my family? by Keith Wall
B&N

Quote:
What Does the Bible Say About Prayer?

Countless books have been written about how to pray, what to pray, and when to pray. But this book includes exactly what God says about prayer, straight from his Word.

The Bible talks a lot about prayer. God reveals the elements of effective prayer and promises to hear and answer our prayers. His Word also gives many examples of prayer from his faithful followers, including David, Moses, Hannah, and more. And Jesus himself teaches us how to pray.

In this clear, concise book, all the scriptural prayers and primary references to prayer have been carefully collected and organized into useful categories. When necessary, brief explanations are provided, using insights gathered from trustworthy commentaries.

Let the Bible's timeless truths encourage you to grow closer to the Lord through prayer today.
Thriving: Trusting God for Life to the Fullest by Nancy Grisham
B&N

Quote:
Jesus made believers a bold promise: life and life to the fullest. He offers us more than just barely getting by when challenges come our way. But that kind of life doesn't happen automatically.

Thriving equips you to live the abundant life. Using personal stories and biblical insights, Nancy Grisham shows you how to appropriate Jesus's promise in your own life, even in the midst of difficult circumstances. Each chapter concludes with a practical reflection and application section perfect for individual study or small group discussions.

Preacher's Bride, The (Hearts of Faith Book #1) by Jody Hedlund

Free at Amazon

Publisher: Bethany House Publishers

Quote:
In 1650s England, a young Puritan maiden is on a mission to save the baby of her newly widowed preacher--whether her assistance is wanted or not. Always ready to help those in need, Elizabeth ignores John's protests of her aid. She's even willing to risk her lone marriage prospect to help the little family.

Yet Elizabeth's new role as nanny takes a dangerous turn when John's boldness from the pulpit makes him a target of political and religious leaders. As the preacher's enemies become desperate to silence him, they draw Elizabeth into a deadly web of deception. Finding herself in more danger than she ever bargained for, she's more determined than ever to save the child--and man--she's come to love.

John by R. C. Sproul is free at Ligonier Ministries online store as a DRM-free epub and at Amazon.

Quote:
In John, the second volume in the St. Andrew’s Expositional Commentary series, Dr. Sproul deals with major themes in his easily understandable style. Readers will find invaluable insights into the goals John had in writing his Gospel, the background for Jesus’ time, and the meanings of some of John’s most difficult passages. This introduction to the Gospel of John is packed with insights and exhortations that will draw the reader closer to the Savior and encourage him or her to a greater depth of love and devotion to Him.

John presents the fruits of Dr. R.C. Sproul’s lifetime of biblical study as expressed in his most recent calling. After a long and distinguished ministry as a teacher in various settings, Dr. Sproul accepted a call in 1997 to preach at St. Andrew’s in Sanford, Florida. There, he adopted the ancient practice of preaching through books of the Bible, eventually working his way through several of them. He has now begun to adapt those sermon series in book form, and the result is the St. Andrew’s Expositional Commentary series.
I'll Cross the River by C. Hope Flinchbaugh is free at Amazon.

Quote:
Lay still pretend you are dead, Young Soon told her trembling young son as she lay, bleeding, on the ground, and nestling her nursing baby closer.

How could the daily messages blaring from the loud speakers be wrong? Loyal communists believe government announcements that North Korea is the only country prospering, as the rest of the world is depressed and starving. Was it all a lie?

After reading a smuggled newspaper article about life beyond North Korea, widowed and pregnant Young Soon is determined to flee her beloved country with her son and baby to find food and safety in neighboring China...across the river.

Near the riverbank and above the guardhouse looms a great red dragon. Its tail sweeps back and forth across the river and smaller evil-looking creatures scurry beneath it. Far above the red dragon, Heaven's warriors, dressed in white, charge courageously. The dragon seems distracted, but not defeated. What's to become of Young Soon and her children?

Miles away in China, Mei Lin has a heart-pounding dream about a baby crying out to her from murky waters. Who is this baby? How will she find him?

I'll Cross the River is a true-to-life novel that depicts the incredible human tragedy occurring today inside North Korea. The prayers of many bring two families together in a story you will never forget.

Thrashing About With God by Mandy Steward is free today.
Publisher page

Quote:
What if Jesus didn’t die so our lives could look perfect? What if He died so we could stop feeling like our lives have to be perfect to mean something? What if we simply live out our own story, even if it doesn’t look as others say it should? Mandy Steward set out in pursuit of these what-ifs. She didn’t find answers so much as she discovered a messy grace that knows no limits and a God that was and is willing to thrash about with her no matter her questions or struggles or doubts. What she found was abundant life, but it didn’t look like she thought it was going to. It was far different, and much deeper. This is a book without “easy” answers that lets those struggling with faith and searching for more know they are not alone.

Free Lexham English Bible

The Lexham English Bible has been made free to download in various formats. It's apparently meant for use in lexical studies and such, but Logos began making this the default Bible version for their Bible software. They have downloads available in several formats including epub, but not mobi.

Lexham English Bible
Download page

Their licensing terms allow no-cost redistribution, so if someone wanted to convert it to a reasonable Kindle version, I think he or she could give it away. I ran kindlegen on it and the formatting is fine, but the table of contents got lost somewhere along the way.

24/6: A Prescription for a Healthier, Happier Life by Matthew Sleeth is free today.
B&N Amazon

Quote:
“Remember the Sabbath and keep it holy.”

Sounds nice, but how do we find rest in a 24/7 world? Just as the Hebrews were slaves in Egypt, we have become slaves to technology. Our technological tools allow 24-hour productivity and connectivity, give us more control, and subtlety enslave us to busyness itself. Sabbath is about restraint, about intentionally not doing everything all the time just because we can. Setting aside a day of rest helps us reconnect with our Creator and find the peace of God that passes all understanding. The Sabbath is about letting go of the controls one day a week and letting God be God. So how do we do it?

In 24/6, Dr. Matthew Sleeth describes our symptoms, clarifies the signs, diagnoses the illness, and lays out a simple plan for living a healthier, more God-centered life in a digitally-dazed, always-on world. Sleeth shares how his own family was dramatically transformed when it adopted Sabbath practices and helps readers better understand how their own lives can be transformed – physically, emotionally, relationally and spiritually – by adopting the 24/6 lifestyle.
