JB & ALP - FW and Patch question

For you techies.

Does anyone know what the difference is between the FW updates and Patch updates?

Does Patch deal with the underlying O/S and FW with the installed app software?

I have never seen a Patch update offered on it's own.

Is FW and Patch inherent to Linux terminology as I believe the O/S is linux based.

I've also wondered about that. as well.

The menu "Patch" option is a related mystery, I often wondered if that
would be for incremental updates to the reader softwares. The normal
way embedded software works, in my limited experience, would require
a change to the whole firmware when any changes were to be made to
one of the embedded programs.
