This absolutely excellent news and a huge development for Fire owners. This demonstrates that the Kindle Fire is capable of supporting the latest Android OS, and hopefully the software developers at Amazon catch wind of this video and release a future update built upon Ice Cream Sandwich. Thanks for posting this.

Looks like the Fire is catching everyone's eye. This bodes well for app development/updates. Also says that Amazon did not underpower the platform. I wonder how iOS would run on this hardware. I bet Apple has already tried this.

I don't think there was ever any doubt, the Kindle Fire is based on the OMAP4 architecture (OMAP4430), same as the Galaxy Nexus (OMAP4460). Cyanogen folks already pointed out that devices based on OMAP4 would be the first to get the new Android version, as there is less delta. Excellent news for Fire owners, I hope the NC gets the same treat soon.

It's not what it looks like. It's just an experiment to demonstrate that the Fire will run the latest Android OS. Maybe a future Kindle Fire release will be built upon the Ice Cream Sandwich Android OS. Just like the existing Kindle Fire OS is built upon the Android 2.3 OS (Gingerbread). |
