Series # tweak not working
Code:
series_index_auto_increment = 'next_free' If I was missing #1 of 3, 1 would get used. Even though the index 1 is not used, the series is now set to 4 Anyone else seeing this 8.16 XP? |

next_free means: First available integer larger than the smallest existing number
So if you have number 2, 3 next_free will give you 4 not 1 If you have 2, 4 It would give you 3 It does not mean smallest available integer larger than 0 |

This sounds like a very nice option.
Lots of times I am adding a number of books to a series, filling in missing numbers. It is a pain to have to change the series number each time. Maybe call it "first_free" |

Note: there is an(other) excellent plug-in "Manage Series" available that allows a 'fast shuffle' of numbers |

Oh, I see.
Strange, but useable. You just have to make sure that you explicitly set the series number of the first book you add, if it is lower than any others already there. But it still sounds like it would be nice to have it accept "first_free" to the lowest free integer. |

I not sure you do. Go to Preferences - Tweaks and review the Auto Increment Series Index tweak. |

So first_free is supported?

Kovids post says No (my original complaint/observation). 1 appears to be the bottom end anchor point/base

I was talking about next_free. first_free should do exactly what the documentation says it will do, pick the first available number > 0.
