It was quite literally a lifesaver for the astronauts aboard the Apollo 13 spacecraft. Without it they would have been a asphyxiated long before they reached home. Without duct tape there's no way they could have rigged up a carbon dioxide filter to filter the air they were breathing after that onboard explosion took out two of their main oxygen tanks. I've always thought a great advertising slogan would be "Duct Tape. Don't leave Earth without it."

"To Yossarian, the idea of pennants as prizes was absurd. No money went with them, no class privileges. Like Olympic medals and tennis trophies, all they signified was that the owner had done something of no benefit to anyone more capably than everyone else."

“Sometimes the Bible in the hand of one man is worse than a whisky bottle in the hand of (another)... There are just some kind of men who - who're so busy worrying about the next world they've never learned to live in this one, and you can look down the street and see the results.”

― Harper Lee, To Kill a Mockingbird
