Question Up-To-Date Rooting Techniques (1.4.3)

Hi. I've been reading these boards for a while on how to troubleshoot and modify e-ink readers and I have a couple of questions.

I recently acquired a Classic Nook with firmware 1.4.3 and I wish to root it.

So far, it seems pretty difficult to do based on the guides I've read and I have a question about such guides.

First of all, are there any more up-to-date guides and techniques? This one hasn't been updated since 2010, but this one seems up to date. Will the latter guide still work?

Second, do I have to use a router with internet access? I use a router provided by my isp to provide iptv and voip phone services. Is it alright to use a wifi router and I don't use anymore (specifically, a WRT54GL)?

Ok, I've been trying the luck method mentioned here and I've gotten as far as running ratc, but I cannot restablish a connection to adbd after running adb kill-server from my pc. Not even if I try the browser exploit again?

Suggestions?

edit: nm. I finally got it by trying the browser exploit again. adbd now runs like clockwork

Did you update it to the rooted version of 1.7?

No. I left it at 1.4.3, rooted it, and pulled FirmwareUpdateService.apk

Hi,

We've root a Nook Color to Android using this method

http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...1530974&page=2

It formats the nook system so if u want to go back, there are updates from B & N.
