Wells, Carolyn: The Technique of the Mystery Story, v.1, 12 Dec 2007.

First published in 1913, this book analyses the different techniques used in a variety of mystery and detective stories, also offering hints to writers.

Many of the examples are taken from Conan Doyle and Anna Katherine Green, many of whose works HarryT has already uploaded.

SPOILER ALERT
This book discusses techniques, so contains a lot of plot spoilers. If you don’t want plot spoilers then don’t read this book. You’ve been warned.

Thank you very much for posting this work. Where did you find the original text? It's not at PG. I like Carolyn's writing and would like to read more of her than just what's at PG.

Thanks!

The original source was PG Australia.

The 20 rules that Hadrien mentions can also be found at the end of HarryT's upload of S S Van Dine's The Winter Murder Case (no 12 in his Philo Vance series).
