Kindle DX froze on me. Permanently.

My DX no longer accepts any input. Regardless of which buttons I hit, nothing happens. I can not put it to sleep and I can not do a hard re-boot (I've tried holding the on/off switch for 20sec, 30sec, 1min etc. etc.).

I have no idea what happened. I was sitting reading just fine when suddenly I could no longer go to the next page.

Waiting for Amazon support to get back to me but was wondering if anyone has experienced something similar and, if so, if there was a solution for it.

I have not heard of a DX freezing like that but kindlekitten is right... I would not be surprised if Amazon sent you a replacement DX overnight.

It looks like to me that there is a reset button on the bottom of the DX right next to the USB connector. I've not heard squat about it online or in any documentation.

It may pay you to use a paper clip and press it to see what happens.

Thanks all.

Amazon support want me to try the hard reset while being plugged into a power source. I am on the road without my cables (just to add to my agony) so haven't had a chance to try that yet.

I'll see if I can buy a cable somewhere tomorrow and hook it up to my laptop.

That isn't a reset button on the bottom of the DX, it's the charging light! Whatever you do, do NOT push it in with a paper clip.

Don't ask me how I know...

Mine froze that way once. I hit reset and nothing. I did a hard reset, let it sit for 10 minutes and everything was fine. Good luck.

Whoops! Thanks for the warning.

No luck solving the problem but Amazon will ship me a replacement device. All credit to them.

Could be a problem with the charging circuitry or the battery or something similar. If the battery goes out the screen freezes and that's it. Since it's e-paper, it appears that it is frozen when in fact it is not on.

I had the same thing happen to my K2. I called them, they called me back and we fixed it. Hard reset by holding the power slider over for 30 seconds with it plugged in. it worked. The problem was that my battery was dead, even though the battery meter only showed 50%. When I did this, it apparently also re-calibrated the battery meter. No problems since then.
