Disabling sleep mode?
Can sleep mode on the Kindle 3 be disabled or extend the time that passes before it goes into sleep mode?

Until there is a more practical method of rooting a Kindle, nope.
Once it has been rooted then editing /etc/powerd.conf should let you alter the timeout. |
