Have been looking since I wrote the last post. It's a tedious, manual process, writing to each library individually... Just checking if there is anything else out there. I had posted a link to a list last year, but, apart from the libraries I am a member of, the other libraries on it had very long waiting lists and small catalogues.

http://www.ocls.info/downloadables/ebooks.asp?from=cat http://ocls.lib.overdrive.com/F78BFD...en/Default.htm http://ocls.freading.com/index They update about once every ten days (they just added 500 books published by Penguin the day before yesterday - ). The checkout limit is 20 titles at the same time. I hope they will continue to offer out-of-state cards. At the rate I'm reading, I'd be broke if not for the library |

Again, this is from just one person in the circulation department, so I'd take it with a grain of salt until some type of official announcement is made. From recent articles I've browsed in the news, their library system is somewhat debt-ridden, so, like you, I'd think any source of revenue would be welcome. |

Seems like it was over a year ago that there was talk about restricting access...seems like it was pressure from the publishers on Overdrive. It's a vague memory, but I'm sure it was all discussed here, so you could try searching.
Even libraries that formed consortiums to share the costs were stopped from buying certain publishers. And for some reason, I think part of the discussion involved UK libraries using Overdrive as well. Up until then there were more libraries that allowed the purchase of out-of-state access, but many shut it down. I was always surprised these last holdouts still did allow it. |
