Kind of surprised. I thought that both this and the Nine Princes of Amber had been pulled as unauthorized ebooks. I know that the Nine Princes of Amber got pulled down about 2 or 3 days after it had been put up. There are actually several ebooks that are legit from IBOOKS INC (in the kindle store). Hopefully they will have another 2 or 3 in a week or so.

'Cause it's unauthorised, of course. No matter how many times they put it back up. You'd really think Amazon could do something preemptively to keep them off until they actually are authorised.
I really wish some were legitimately available, though. Last edited by cromag; 06-29-2014 at 06:50 PM. |

They are not legal eBooks and you won't know the quality until you pull the plug and buy. So you are risking your money on what could be a crappy copy.

I'm just waiting until someone with the legal rights to the illegal eBook(s) SOLD on Amazon to sue the heck out of Amazon. Amazon is at fault because they allowed these illegal eBooks to be put up for sale and then proceeded to sell them. |

How can they verify confidential business transactions? There is no central registry of copyright owners: if someone signs a legally-binding declaration that they have the legal right to distribute a book (which is an upload has to do when they upload a book to Amazon), there's no practical way to verify that they're telling the truth.

What sort of proof? If I make a declaration that I've obtained the rights to distribute a book from the estate of someone who died 50 years ago, what would you accept of proof of that? Such things are not recorded anywhere. There is no "proof" other than personal declarations. You're asking for something that simply doesn't exist.

I wish there WAS a registry of current copyright holders. It would make finding the rightsholder of orphaned works much easier. Right now it often takes a legal department a long time to track down who can autherize publication 50 years after the author has died and 70 years since he last had contact with a publisher. A registry would be wonderful. There are so many books that no one knows who owns them anymore including the owners.
