Also $2.99 at B&N although they aren't doing anything to promote it.

It's an agency book, so not a "Kindle deal" or a "Kobo deal."

I'll be watching if it's just a one day sale or if the price sticks for a few days. If it's back up tomorrow it may be a sign that publishers see this as a promotional tool. All previous "Deals" have certainly shot up the Amazon charts.

Hidden in Plain View (Darryl Billups Mysteries) by Blair S. Walker from AmazonEncore ($0.99) is the Kindle Deal of the Day (Aug 29) *Wait for price to reflect discount before 1-clicking

Quote:
Product Description
In the second installment of Blair S. Walker’s Darryl Billups series, the intrepid reporter has left his blue-collar Baltimore roots for a new gig in New York. But life in the big city isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Luckily for Darryl, the Baltimore Herald is only too happy to welcome its star reporter back home, as are Darryl’s girlfriend Yolanda and her young son Jamal. Darryl is promoted to editor, but before long is itching to return to his former crime beat. He gets his chance when the nude bodies of African-American professionals begin turning up around town, their faces ominously marked with Confederate-flag decals. At a loss for suspects, homicide detective Phillip Gardner calls on his old friend Darryl for help unraveling the case. Darryl eagerly reconnects with Baltimore’s seedy underbelly and is soon hot on the trail of a killer who will transform his notions about gender, race, and the workings of the criminal mind. To break this story, Darryl must learn to look at the world in a totally different way—or become the killer’s most high-profile victim yet!

Darkness Visible: A Memoir of Madness (Open Road) by William Styron from Open Road ($1.49) is the Kindle Deal of the Day (Aug 30) *Wait for price to reflect discount before 1-clicking

Quote:
Product Description
Styron’s stirring account of his plunge into a crippling depression, and his inspiring road to recovery

In the summer of 1985, William Styron became numbed by disaffection, apathy, and despair, unable to speak or walk while caught in the grip of advanced depression. His struggle with the disease culminated in a wave of obsession that nearly drove him to suicide, leading him to seek hospitalization before the dark tide engulfed him.

Darkness Visible tells the story of Styron’s recovery, laying bare the harrowing realities of clinical depression and chronicling his triumph over the disease that had claimed so many great writers before him. His final words are a call for hope to all who suffer from mental illness that it is possible to emerge from even the deepest abyss of despair and “once again behold the stars.”

This ebook features a new illustrated biography of William Styron, including original letters, rare photos, and never-before-seen documents from the Styron family and the Duke University Archives.

I've only said this about one book... ever.

Skip it and watch the movie. I did some searching after coming to that conclusion and I've seen multiple reviewers say the same thing.

Poke the Box by Seth Godin from The Domino Project ($1.49) is the Kindle Deal of the Day (Aug 31) *Wait for price to reflect discount before 1-clicking

Quote:
Product Description
If you're stuck at the starting line, you don't need more time or permission. You don’t need to wait for a boss’s okay or to be told to push the button; you just need to poke.

Poke the Box is a manifesto by bestselling author Seth Godin that just might make you uncomfortable. It’s a call to action about the initiative you’re taking-– in your job or in your life. Godin knows that one of our scarcest resources is the spark of initiative in most organizations (and most careers)-– the person with the guts to say, “I want to start stuff.”

Poke the Box just may be the kick in the pants you need to shake up your life.

The Five Dysfunctions of a Team: A Leadership Fable (J-B Lencioni Series) by Patrick M. Lencioni from Jossey-Bass ($2.99) is the Kindle Deal of the Day (Sept 1) *Wait for price to reflect discount before 1-clicking

Quote:
Product Description
In The Five Dysfunctions of a Team Patrick Lencioni once again offers a leadership fable that is as enthralling and instructive as his first two best-selling books, The Five Temptations of a CEO and The Four Obsessions of an Extraordinary Executive. This time, he turns his keen intellect and storytelling power to the fascinating, complex world of teams.

Kathryn Petersen, Decision Tech's CEO, faces the ultimate leadership crisis: Uniting a team in such disarray that it threatens to bring down the entire company. Will she succeed? Will she be fired? Will the company fail? Lencioni's utterly gripping tale serves as a timeless reminder that leadership requires as much courage as it does insight.

Throughout the story, Lencioni reveals the five dysfunctions which go to the very heart of why teams even the best ones-often struggle. He outlines a powerful model and actionable steps that can be used to overcome these common hurdles and build a cohesive, effective team. Just as with his other books, Lencioni has written a compelling fable with a powerful yet deceptively simple message for all those who strive to be exceptional team leaders.

Alison Wonderland by Helen Smith from AmazonEncore ($0.99) is the Kindle Deal of the Day (Sept 3) *Wait for price to reflect discount before 1-clicking

Quote:
Product Description
After her husband leaves her for another woman, twentysomething Londoner Alison Temple impulsively applies for a job at the very P.I. firm she hired to trap her philandering ex. She hopes it will be the change of scene she so desperately needs to move on with her shattered life. At the all-female Fitzgerald’s Bureau of Investigation, she spends her days tracking lost objects and her nights shadowing unfaithful husbands. But no matter what the case, none of her clients can compare to the fascinating characters in her personal life. There’s her boss, the estimable and tidy Mrs. Fitzgerald; Taron, Alison’s eccentric best friend, who claims her mother is a witch; Jeff, her love-struck, poetry-writing neighbor; and—last but not least—her psychic postman. Her relationships with them all become entangled when she joins Taron for a road trip to the seaside and stumbles into a misadventure of epic proportions! Clever, quirky, and infused with just a hint of magic, this humorous literary novel introduces a memorable heroine struggling with the everyday complexities of modern life.

Somewhere in Cape Town her friend, Rachel Anderson, an innocent American, is hopefully still alive.

On the run from the first page of Thirteen Hours, Rachel is terrified, unsure where to turn in the unknown city. Detective Griessel races against the clock, trying to bring her home safe and solve the murder of her friend in a single day. Meanwhile, he gets pulled into a second case, the murder of a South African music executive. Griessel’s been sober for nearly six months—156 days. But day 157 is going to be tough. I resisted reading it about 25 years ago, when I decided to sell my two mint uncorrected galleys for $50 each.

....so, I decided I'd go ahead this time around and buy the ebook and read it, in about 2-3 years from now (or until my TBRs substantially decrease).

This is not worth reading even if you were paid to read it. It just has too many places in it that make you go "WTF? Why am I reading this crap?"
