Word count is a great idea. As is (in case you haven't thought about it) adding 'warning' ratings. Like, 'sexual content', 'drug references', 'foul language'. That's something B&N, for example, doesn't tend to have for its ebooks, and that seems to cause some readers quite a bit of anguish when they accidentally happen upon something naughty.

I am a guy, and I love romance stories. 1) I tend to identify more with the heroine than with the hero (no transgender issues, just how I am); 2) They're very easy to read and allow to switch off your brain; 3) They can be very funny and/or thrilling.
I particularly find The Boy Series by Meg Cabot absolutely hilarious, and I'd love to download it if my incomes allow that chance to make sure that at least she got some tiny buck from a supporter. Hell, if I could donate to her directly I'd do it. A small excerpt from the beginning, which is put on her website: Quote:

I want to take up the cudgels for romance!
I was 12 years old, when I held my first Georgette Heyer book in my hand (again in the library) and was amazed there are stories like that. Soon I finished the whole shelf and my love for romance novels never declined. In these days, I prefer regency romance and like Julia Quinn, Mary Balogh and Joan Wolf best. It is as Logseman said. It is easy fare, fast read and allows you to shut your brain off. It is like watching some TV soap or a sitcom, you just watch and relax. Only because I read romance doesn´t necessarily mean I don´t read anything else. In fact, I read a lot of other books. But, be honest people! After a long days, stressing work, during the week, who reads Dostojewski? I was long ashamed buying these books because of the cover (we all know those Fabio-look-alikes and those half naked women hanging on these guys) and because of the bad standing, these kind of books have. But thank god I grew up and stand to the things I do and read. If anybody has a problem with what I read and thinks I am stupid or what else...I absolutely don´t care. I know who and what I am and my friends know it too. And concerning the porn/erotica issue..when you start reading romance, you soon read some more or less explicit love scenes. I like reading them and have a few rather hot books too. I dont think there is anything wrong with that. I have a very good friend and she likes to read stuff like that too. So I guess there are at least some women who like it. In fact I prefer it to watching porn. It suits my imagination. And guys, dont tell me there are not a few out here who watched one or two porns. To my opinion there is no real difference. If there wouldn´t be a clientele for romance novels, written erotica or porno movies, why is there an industry providing it? And last but not least, it is your choice what to buy and read. So I think a good ebook-store should definetly have romance and maybe some porn/erotica too. P.S. sorry for my English, as my interest in this language came after I learned it in school. Better to read something than not to read at all! |

hallali, . As I say (and specially about covers and hot scenes ) if you don't like what I'm reading, don't look at. It's your problem, not mine.

All PAY eBooks are international!
Dear Laura:
Before we even thought about this particular website we wanted a site for our Aussie firends also... and for all friends all around the globe. So... the PAY content is international. We are dealing now with Google. Google has rules in place. They want their content to be only USA on our website. We are trying to get this changed. So... yes, the pay eBooks are fully international!! |

To be honest I love a good romance. I'd say about 40% of my books both paper and ebook are romances. It's unrealistic, but when I'm reading that's what I want. I have enough troubles and just want a happy ending.
That said, I like many, many kinds of romance. Main stream, little more than boy meets girl, they fall in love. Both in contemporary and historical settings. Paranormal, boy meets girl with some sort of supernatural twist. (I would say this is my favorite genre.) Erotic, well boy meets girl and well it's rather explicit. Silly: again boy meets girl but the situations are, well silly. Katie MacAlister is my favorite in this sub genre Now myself I'm not a fan of it, but it's a huge market. But much darker romances are very, very popular. Stories about bondage both extreme and mild are very popular. Also popular is F/M/M or FM/M/M, one woman with more than one (male) partner. Edit: Forgot to add M/M seem very popular, yes with female readers. Most of the writers are woman Frankly I don't understand this new trend but there you have it. Great that you read romance!!
Quote:
NEVER be ashamed of what you read!! It does not matter whether it is romance or science fiction or parenting or needlepoint!! ALL of us have UNIQUE tastes and they are all great!! An eBook is a personal thing... it is a journey between the author and the reader. Tastes are part of that personal thing. The accolades come FOR reading!! People who read, in my estimation, are generally smarter, have more personality, and are a pleasure to know. So... NEVER EVER worry about what you like! A book is your own private vehicle and nobody should ever judge you for what you read! By the way, your English is WONDERFUL!! Your sentence structure and grammer are outstanding!! Do you realize that around 1970 there were two porn films that almost everybody went to see in 3-D. It was all the rage! Now we are back to being more reserved. Porn can be fun. In any case, it is a personal decision. Last edited by Robertb; 03-02-2010 at 06:45 PM. |

Naked UPS guys on a diet and exercising!!
Dear SimonSays:
O.K. I have requested several naked UPS guy novels where the hero is really a hunk and a bit statuesque but always dieting and he leads aerobics as a sideline while enjoying being spanked during sex with two women who do Jazz Aerobics. By the way, I am not making fun of anybody's tastes. I think it is great that people are being very free on here and talking their minds. |

As I said, I was ashamed, but am no more. But think about a 15 year old girl buying a Fabio-cover-Book. But that was long ago.

Ok.. lets edit. One woman. Not statuesque (I like them Michael Jordan built during his early 1990s, Matthew Lillard build types), no dieting. How about he just is a manly man who knows what he wants and takes it when he wants it? None of this playing games kind of crap..lol
