It's not like anybody's going to spend hours there browsing and reading. Are people really so aesthetically sensitive?

You're right, of course! Sigil users are all completely focussed on content, not at all obsessed with fussing over details of font, layout etc. :-)

Has anybody actually ever decided NOT to download a program they looked long and hard for, just because the website's feng shui didn't work for them?

Nobody's trying to bait anyone into clicking buttons here. It's very much a; :Search for Sigil, Find Link to (Download | Donate to | Contribute to) Sigil, Click it" type of endeavor from my point of view.

Hmm, some people say "contrast is really bad". Effort to chnage this is low. Instead a discussion of why not to that and its not important to change that is initiated which consumes more time then a change of o color rule in the css.

My preference is always for readability across a range of devices. My clients are often locked into the concept of page layout, on THEIR reader. That's what makes the job such fun!

I don't mind website style tips, but it always seems to me that the font|color|contrast "experts" that seem to come out of the woodwork in situations like this, might be a little overzealous with (and maybe hyper-sensitive to) these things.

The fact that it's 1) an available Wordpress template that 2) some people choose over other available templates, should be proof enough that it's attractive enough to some--and not as inherently "bad" as others want to believe.

Consensus will never be achieved. *shrug*

This isn't a scenario where the full psychology of color need be combined with the perfect font/contrast to generate the highest volume of involuntary click-through traffic possible. Most of the people who find Sigil's page will already have been looking for it for a reason.

I wish you need to have to use a wheel chair, not being able to climb up stairs, and now read your answers again: how futile it is to complain that there isnt a ramp... Why building a ramp? only a few are complaining, not worth thinking about this. Better disussing this over and over again instead of changing. Changing a color value is less more work than building a ramp.

I really like people like you aqrguing like like that.

But: dont care, you are not so important to spend so much time gavind this discussion with you. Iwill no longer answer to this silly stuff.

I cannot say the theme has bothered me in the slightest...

To those who are really bothered -- why do even need to consult that website??? You already know where releases are hosted, you know to look for plugins here, etc...

If it is this horrible to be unable to read the new site, or whatever... what did you do when there was NO site?
