Buchclub - Vorgespräch zum Thema Science Fiction im Oktober 2013

Thema für den Buchclub im Oktober ist Science Fiction.

Dieses Thema soll dazu dienen schon ein kleines Vorgespräch zur Buchclub-Nominierung ab dem 1. September zu führen und natürlich auch etwas Werbung dafür zu machen.

Wie beim letzten Mal, wäre es interessant zu wissen, wer dabei ist, wo die Interessen liegen, welche Autoren gewünscht sind oder was ihr für Erwartungen habt.

Im Anschluss könnten auch schon erste Vorschläge besprochen werden, aber auch allgemeines Geplauder ist gerne erwünscht.

Ich wäre sehr für die Strugazki-Brüder oder Lem.

Lukjanenko wäre auch ein Gedanke. Aber ich finde, es schadete nicht, auf dem Gebiet mal "klassisch" anzufangen. Also: Eine Lanze für die osteuropäische Fantastik. (Auch wenn ich Schleswig-Holsteiner bin. )

Eigentlich müsste all den anglo-amerikanischen Trekkies das Genre überhaupt auch entgegen kommen. Seit Kirk und Pille gehts schließlich dort auch meistens -wie in der östlichen Fantastik - weniger um technisch ausstaffierte, als um zutiefst menschliche Probleme.

Ich fürchte, ich bin sehr westlich orientiert, was Science Fiction anbelangt. Die Slawen langweilen mich einfach nur zu Tode (kann nichts dafür, manche Sachen gehen halt einfach nicht).

Es wurden ja schon ein paar sehr lesenswerte moderne Autoren wie Robert Charles Wilson, Stephen Baxter, Alastair Reynolds und Douglas Adams genannt.

Ursula Le Guin ist schon sehr literarisch, aber ich mag sie auch. Für Weltraumschlachten habe ich auch eher wenig bis gar nichts übrig.

Ursula Le Guin gehört wirklich zu den großen Klassikern der Science Fiction. Ich habe vor langer Zeit Die linke Hand der Dunkelheit gelesen, was mir gut gefallen hatte. Allerdings kann ich mich kaum noch an den Inhalt erinnern. Das sind die Freuden des Alters man kann alles noch einmal lesen.

Ich glaube, um die Weltraumschlachten brauchst du dir keine Gedanken zu machen, wir werden schon etwas nettes finden.

Interessante Autoren! Ich glaube dieser Thread ist auch noch nach dem Oktober ein gutes Hilfsmittel, um neue Lektüre zu finden.

Ich habe da noch einige weitere Autoren im Kopf, aber die kann ich dann ja noch die nächsten Tage vorstellen.

Larry Niven, bekannt durch seine Ringwelt und Kzin-Bücher. Großartige Konzepte aber Schwächen bei der Charakterentwicklung.
Andre Norton - ganz klassische S/F von einer der großen (und leider wenigen) Frauen des Genres
Robert Heinlein - noch ein Klassiker, nicht alles von ihm ist lesbar, aber einiges ist richtig klasse.
Catherine Asaro verdient es, deutlich bekannter zu sein, als sie ist. Hier könnte es mit der Verfügbarkeit deutscher Übersetzungen aber schwieriger werden.
Michael Szameit, der S/F-Autor der DDR. ;-) Habe ich als Teenager geliebt, und die Bücher haben mich tief geprägt. Ich weiß aber nicht, wie ich die Werke heute sehen würde.

Wenn mir noch eine Bemerkung zu den bisherigen Autoren erlaubt sei - von Frank Herbert würde ich in diesem Rahmen Abstand nehmen. Die Dune-Reihe ist klasse, keine Frage, aber sie ist auch vielschichtig, komplex, teilweise langatmig und extrem schwer verdaulich. Ich würde mir stattdessen für diese Buchclub-Runde etwas wünschen, das Leute an S/F heranführt, die damit bisher noch keinen großartigen Kontakt hatten.

Ich finde Herbert eigentlich sehr gut lesbar, ich kenne aber auch nur den ersten Teil der Dune-Reihe, stimme aber ansonsten mit dir überein. Ich würde in diesem Rahmen lieber einen nicht so umfangreichen Einzelroman wählen, zu dem viele Zugang finden.

Frank Herbert habe ich auch ad acta gelegt, muss ich sagen. Und für Leute, die mit SF sonst nichts am Hut haben, ist das sicher nichts, da gebe ich Gudy Recht.

Ansonsten sind die Vorschläge hier doch (ja, leider auch meine eigenen) ziemlich "männerlastig". Von daher:

Dann steuer ich auch noch ein paar Vorschläge bei.
Wie euch auffallen dürfte bin ich eher Freund der Hardcore SF. Wenn schon dann auch Raumfahrt, Wurmlöcher umd Sternenimperien.
Kann mit diesen eher philosophischen Autoren wie Lem oder Lukanienko auch nicht so viel anfangen


Peter F. Hamilton: Einziger Nachteil ist das er nur Mehrteiler geschrieben hat (von ein paar Kurzgeschichten abgesehen). Ansonsten sehr komplex, viele verschiedene Handlungsstränge die immer erst im letzten Band zusammenlaufen. Vorstellen könnte ich mir allerdings etwas aus der Mindstar-Serie, die sind einigermassen eigenständig, aber nur als P-Buch oder auf Englisch.
Vorschlag: Die Spinne im Netz (Mindstar Rising)



William Gibson: Der Erfinder des Cyberpunks, des Internets und der Matrix (na ja, fast)
Vorschlag: Neuromancer




David Weber: Military SF, nicht jedermanns Sache aber die Honor Harrington Romane sind durch die Bank Klasse und inzwisschen auch Klassiker.
Vorschlag: Auf verlorenem Posten (Englische Version bei BAEN auch kostenlos)

E.E. "Doc" Smith: Noch ein Klassiker, diesmal der Space-Opera. Bisschen kitschig und eindimensional, aber ein MUSS.
Vorschlag: Die Planetenbasis (Leider nur auf Papier und auch nicht mehr im Druck)

Zu guter Letzt:

Anne McCaffrey: Vielschreiberin, aber das Eine oder Andere ist durchaus Lesenswert, z.B. die "Gehirnschiff" Romane oder "Kristallsänger"
