[PB 301] PDF questions
Hi all,
I think seriously of buying a Pocketbook 301. I previously owned a Sony PRS600, but I returned it after a few days because of the reflections and low contrast due to the touch screen. I know that 302 is coming with wireless and touch screen, but I learned to fear the fuzzy feel of touch screens :-/ and a larger size (8" and more) is maybe too bulky for daily travel. That leave me with the "ideal" size of 6" and it seems that PB301 is a good contender in this category. I assume, according to the witnesses in this forum that the screen is clear and the contrast is good. However, I have a few questions concerning the PDF viewers: - Can they autocrop margins? To me, this means to match automatically the text width match the screen width, in both portrait and landscape mode. - Can they zoom to arbitrary level and keep the zoom between pages (persistent zoom)? - Are the PDF viewers stable enough (no crash) with complex layout documents with math, tables and graphics? I read some good things about the PDF viewer, including the above and also the ability to view two column text one column at a time (can someone confirm this?), but the discussion was about PB360. Can someone confirm this for PB301? They are similar devices, but not identical, so I wanted to check before buying. Also, one last question: for someone in Europe, what is the best place to buy? Will http://www.my-ebook-reader.de shop to France? Everything is in German there! Thanks everybody! |

The PDF viewer on the PB 301 is the same as that on the PB 360.
So yes it has Fit to width in Landscape and Portrait, Persistent Zoom- which means if you're using fit to width you may have to change it when you change between landscape and portrait. And single column reading of course where you finish at the bottom of the first column and it moves to the top of the next These screenshots show tables, math and graphics. I wouldnt call the PDFs overly complex bu these will show you fixed to width in portrait and landscape as well as single column reading |

Hi Dulin,
The autocrop seems to work really well. For those scanned PDF of Dejavu files I suppose that the zoom is the road to larger fonts. Can you confirm the zoom is persistent from one page to the next? Thanks! |

Yes persistent zoom from one page to the next for the entire pdf and it remembers when you turn it off/exit the pdf so you don't have to fiddle with it again later.

So here it is: I ordered the PB301 from my-ebook-reader.de (closest to where
I live). I would like to thank everybody who answered my questions and this forum in general: your comments really helped me decide. |
