Paper book in France have been using fixed prising for as long as I remember... Can't say i'm annoyed at publishers fixing the prices, i'm used to it. Not such a big deal !

If there is no competition this is always bad for the consumer.
Right now, only amazon and apple have the agency book. What kind of competition is that ?

If the book is too expensive, you have the choice to say "won't buy". If the book just isn't available, you don't have choice anymore. It's just "don't read it".

Actually, I do not see why you even should have the slightes possible reasons to complain.
A standard fiction book via (US International +$2) Amazon costs ~8 - ~12 U.S $.
UK Amazon prices ~3 - ~7 UK £.

Here's (the so far only) Norwegian eBook store: Digital Bok
I know it's all in Norwegian, with Norwegian prices, but here's a quick conversion:
£ - devide by 9
$ - devide by 6
€ - devide by 8

And, on top of it, the books ar DRM'ed beyond recognition and barely allows CyBook.
Prices here

As y'all see, the reades come out US$ ~500 the cheapest one and the books ("bestsellers" and new) starts at US$ ~13 and averages (on front page) US$ ~34

Amazon UK seem to charge on average about £4-£4.50 for the typical eBook, so that respresents a modest, but not catastrophic, increase.
25% below paperback wouldn't be too bad. Hopefully Hachette in the UK, now that they've announced they're going "agency", doesn't price like they do in the US. Here's an example of some of their not so nice pricing in the US (all prices are list prices with no discounts)...

Cross Country - James Patterson
paper $9.99 / ebook $14.99

Kiss the Girls - James Patterson
paper $7.99 / ebook $9.99

Along Came a Spider - James Patterson
paper $7.99 / ebook $9.99

Some of Patterson's other titles are similarily priced.

Naamah's Kiss - Jacqueline Carey
paper $7.99 / ebook $12.99

First Family - David Baldacci
paper $9.99 / ebook $14.99

Divine Justice - David Baldacci
paper $9.99 / ebook $14.99

Twilight - Stephanie Meyer
paper $7.99 / ebook $8.99

Eclipse - Stephanie Meyer
paper $7.99 / ebook $8.99

True Believer - Nicholas Sparks
paper $7.99 / ebook $9.99

The Last Song - Nichlas Sparks
paper $7.99 / ebook $9.99

Some of Sparks' other titles are similarily priced.

The Scarecrow - Michael Connelly
paper $9.99 / ebook $14.99

The Brass Verdict - Michael Connelly
paper $9.99 / ebook $12.99

Some of Connelly's other titles are similarily priced.

To be fair some of their titles are priced equal to, or $1 less, than paper but...

Naamah's Kiss is a good example of the lying that the Agency 5 have done to us. They said that the prices would be in line with the lowest cost paper edition. And now we have a paperback edition that goes lists for $7.99 while the eBook is still selling for $12.99. Someone needs to contact the publisher and call them out on this.

At Border's you can pick up Naamah's Kiss for $4.79 with current coupon for the paperback version.

Or we could make a 'Publisher Pricing Lies' wiki.
