because I used the EE golden downgrade link didn't seem to work，my EE still screen off， negball turned blue when turn on but screen not on，AND can not turn off，i have to take the battery off when trying to start the downgrade procedure.

When I was in the U.S. Navy we had 10 Commandments of Damage Control. One of them I like to use often is: Stay calm, don't give up the ship.



The procedure for updating or replacing the OS on the EE and PE are the same. The only difference is the update file used. If you own an EE, use strictly EE files. Stay away from PE files.



You say you attempted to update a full size eDGe to Ermine with the PE update? Are you 100 percent sure? The reason I ask is because your symptoms as reported are inconsistent with other owners who have installed an incorrect file, albeit on a Pocket eDGe. However, I would suspect the symptoms would be the same. These owners experienced a reverse / mirror Entourage image upon boot up (see posts # 1, # 7, # 9, and # 10: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...ght=weird+boot). You say your screen is blank. It's possible that the update was corrupted during download or something else went wrong. Let's start under the assumption that you did NOT download the incorrect file and something else happened.

Read the remainder of this post carefully before proceeding. Planning and preparation will increase your chances of recovering your eDGe. There are two Golden Dingo options to try, both of which offer a very good chance that your eDGe will be restored to working order. The serial cable option following these should be the very last resort. Based on your symptoms I don't think you will need it.



You say the download link for the Golden EE Update didn't work? Does this mean it didn't work when you tried to install it? I double checked the download link and it works and I added another download link as backup. Plus, a couple of new EE owners used the Golden Dingo Operating System file in question and were able to successfully update their EE from Coyote to Dingo just a few days ago (see post #14): https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=170135


I suggest you take a step back and start from scratch.

The Dingo Golden Update file must be renamed to update.zip in order for it to work. By default Windows will add the zip extension so make sure the file is NOT update.zip.zip.

Make sure the update.zip is in the root of the USB drive or SD card and NOT in some folder.

These installations can sometimes be a little finicky. Do NOT throw in the towel after one or two tries !!! You may want to try another USB drive or an SD card as well. There are plenty of users on this forum that will tell you first hand that these installs can be a real pain in the keister.

Do NOT Give Up !! The instructions from Entourage say to hold the MENU and ROTATE buttons for 10 seconds and after 1-2 minutes you should see the updating software message. Check out this thread:

If the Golden Dingo just doesn't seem to want to work the recovery installer might be the source of the problem. See post # 2 of this thread and download the modified EE version (make sure it is the EE version) and try it again. Carefully read the very first post, especially step # 4. Although this thread was in reference to a Pocket eDGe, emusan modified a Pocket Edge and Full Size Edge version which should help with an upgrade that hangs up.


I suggest you read the entire thread. It's only two pages long. Several owners were able to recover their device using darkgue's solution along with emusan's modified Golden Dingo file.

If you used the wrong update file it isn't as simple as using a Golden Update file to fix it. If you tried to update an EE to Ermine with the PE file do NOT try to revert back using the PE Golden Dingo. This will only make matters worse.

Basically you use the USB to DB-9 cable from your PC, plug one end of the DB-9 to DB-9 cable into the DB-9 end of the USB cable, and chop off the other end and mate it to the 3 pin header cable.


If you identify and label the wires on pins 2, 3, and 5 beforehand on the DB-9 / DB-9 cable (buy one without a molded shell or a cheap plastic shell which can be easily broken if possible) you can just twist and tape those wires to the wires on pins 1, 2, and 3 of the header cable and eliminate the need for soldering.


DB9 Pin 2 (RX) --> Header Pin 1 (TX)
DB9 Pin 5 (Gnd) --> Header Pin 2 (Gnd)
DB9 Pin 3 (TX) --> Header Pin 3 (RX)


OR


If you or someone else can open the DB-9 end of the USB / DB-9 cable and carefully identify and label the wires attached to pins 2, 3, and 5 of the DB-9 connector, you can wire those directly to the header cable wires and eliminate the DB-9 to DB-9 cable.



OR


I really can't tell from the photos but, you may be able to cut and separate the male pins on a prefabricated 3-pin header cable like this one (http://www.amazon.com/3-pin-Female-M.../dp/B005TX3JWE) and plug these into pins 2, 3, and 5 of a DB-9 to USB cable ([http://www.amazon.com/RS-232-DB-9-Ca...545311&sr=1-27) with a DB-9 gender changer (http://www.amazon.com/Your-Cable-Sto...536119&sr=1-15) and eliminate the need for soldering and the DB-9 to DB-9 cable. Notice on the gender changer the pins are clearly numbered.



I have not personally had to use this procedure, however, I can tell you this procedure does require some technical ability. If you know anyone with good technical knowledge and soldering skills they should be able help you with this procedure. I was an electronics technician in the U.S. Navy so I'm speaking from that perspective, but once the cable is built the instructions are not too difficult.

Dingo 1.11 is not the latest Dingo. You might need/want to update Dingo first.

Wanchen_chang, I was mistaken -- Dingo 1.11 is the latest for the full-sized EE. For the first time i am unable to get a market app, bluekeyboard jp, elsewhere. So two questions: in the end, is there no way to get market apps on the ee without another android phone? Has someone seen this app elsewhere?

Someone posted some time ago that they had the market on their EE but it appeared to be a bit 'iffy' so I never tried it.

Regarding the app you want, I just put bluekeyboard jp.apk into a google search and found it on androidezoom where they have the free and pro version.

I doubt you are doing anything wrong - I just found it but didn't try to download.

It appears that all places with it lead back to the market so maybe you could contact the developer and ask if they would e-mail you a copy.

My wife wanted to read books in the dark. I found FBReader on the Amazon AppStore and it really works quite well on her Red pocket edge. By the way, I have a newer Black pocket edge and I think they are different in more ways than color.

The main thing I noticed is that I set the red one to have a b&w pencil sketch of our grand daughter as wallpaper when turned off. I just can't do that with my black one.
