Article on state of typography on the iPad

Interesting overview on some of the typographical infelicities on the iPad:

http://fontfeed.com/archives/ipad-typography

although many of them apply to any sort of e-reader format which doesn't hard-code linebreaks &c. to a specific page size (i.e., pretty much anything other than .pdf)

A lot of very valid issues. I wonder if they will ever get resolved. I would think it would take a huge focus on ebooks and e-reader competition and so far I get the feeling Apple is just throwing up a trial balloon with its iBooks offering.

Considering Apple helped to pioneer desktop publishing back in the 1980s with the original Macs, I must say they seem to have lossed touch with the publishing world. And that includes consumers who read what the publishing world publishes. I lost interest in Apple after they turned their corporate back on publishing and a lot of the creative parts of computing and started emphasizing music, video, and other pre-packaged DRMed merchandise.

Steve Jobs has stated in the past that nobody reads anymore.

And since he is always right, there is no need for typography on the iPad.

Just like with porn, I suppose we'll have to buy an Android for typography....
