Peter Robinson 's Inspector Banks.

Starting to re-read the excellent Inspector Banks detective/police procedural series by Peter Robinson.
I recommend them highly - very well written, totally believable intelligent crime writing .Excellent curl up on the sofa stuff.
Can be read stand alone, but better in order.

Superb series. Definitely a good idea to read in order - there's a lot of on-going character development and storyline.

Sadly, none of the early ones appear to be available for Kindle, at least in the US.

If you like Peter Robinson, you might also like Peter Lovesey, especially his Inspector Diamond series. Its a similar genre, although the characters and plots are quite differrent.

I see only four of his titles are avaiailable for the Kindle (in the UK). I don't know about other formats or other countries.

Turns out that they ARE available in Canada, and most appear to be available from the BC Library site. So I've put a hold on the first, and put the rest on my wish list. (Unfortunately, there's a 5 book limit on holds. ) The waits don't look too onerous, so that should be fine. Won't do anything to improve my TBR backlist, but will at least keep me from buying too much.

I started reading the series from In A Dry Season, and have read the series from there, except for the newest release. The backlist is on my wish list at the Calgary library, I'll get to them one day. So many books, so little time.

One of Robinson's also excellent non-Banks works.

I just assumed it was an Inspector Banks.
I'm sure I'll enjoy it anyway.

To see if a book is a part of a series, look on "Fantastic Fiction. In this case:

I love the Inspector Banks series. I read recently that the same company that made the Wallander series with Kenneth Branagh are going to make a an Inspector Banks series. Could be good if it comes off.
