Opening Fixed Layout KF8 on Kindle 1,2. What happens?
Hi everyone!

I was just wondering. What happens when you open a fixed layout eBook on Kindle 1, 2 and DX? Does it open at all? What happens with the fixed image size and text location? I do not have an old one to test on.

I don't have a fixed layout ebook to test on my Kindle 2, but I suspect it would be the same exact thing that happens when attempting to open any KF8-only file: a warning that the book could not be opened. Fixed-layout or not... KF8 is simply a no-go on Kindle1/2s.

Generally Amazon knows what you have hardware wise and will download a MOBI version of the file if available on not download anything if you can't use it.

Thanks for the info but how does that work? Do you upload two versions, one product page for the mobi and one for KF8, media queries?

In effect, yes. The one you upload has both versions inside and then Amazon ships the correct half. When you use KindleGen it makes both in one container.
