Worse Things Waiting

Quote:
Product Description

A riveting and terrifying sequel to Downward to Darkness by World Fantasy Award-winning McNaughton. Pale, beautiful and uptight Amy Miniter returns to her home town of Mt. Tabor, Connecticut to handle her mother's affairs. Writer Martin Paige comes to Mt. Tabor, too, investigating its past history of supernatural horrors. Martin and Amy are caught in a maelstrom of supernatural evil that has stalked this small New England town for generations. Amy's nightmares are chilling, but there are even Worse Things Waiting.

The Unseen by Alexandra Sokoloff is $.99 at Amazon. Originally published by St. Martin's.

Quote:
After experiencing a precognitive dream that shatters her engagement and changes her life forever, young California psychology professor Laurel MacDonald decides to get a fresh start by taking a job at Duke University in North Carolina. She soon becomes obsessed with the long-buried files form the world-famous Rhine parapsychology experiments, which attempted to prove if ESP really exists.

As she teams up with another charismatic professor, they uncover disturbing reports, including a mysterious case of a house supposedly haunted by a poltergeist, investigated by another research team in 1965. The two professors and two exceptionally gifted Duke students move into the grand, abandoned mansion to replicate the investigation, unaware that the entire original team ended up insane... or dead.

Great idea NightBird to consolidate these threads. Will be monitoring this and the mystery one.

Thanks, ozron. It looks like there are a lot more mystery fans than horror fans around here. LOL

I don't think this have been posted ( I searched and came up empty).

Samhain offers The Night Everything Changed by Kristopher Rufty for free. This is a permanent freebie, at least according to the webpage.

Quote:
No one would ever forget the night the carnival came to town.

Vincent Carlson used to have a good life. He lived on a small farm in Doverton, Wisconsin, with his loving teenage daughter, Leanne. His biggest worries were tending his corn crop and being a good dad to Leanne. But that was before the seedy little carnival came to town, bringing with them the tiny humanoid creatures called “Haunchies”. For Vincent Carlson—and the whole town of Doverton—that was the night everything changed.

It's good at that price; I've not read Book of Shadows, but The Unseen is her weakest novel. The Price is dead cheap at its normal price of $2.99 and is a fantastic read; The Unseen may have broken the Sokoloff "bubble" and make her more scarce in the traditional publishing world.

Thanks HP.

The only one I've read of hers was The Harrowing, and I wasn't too impressed with that. Too juvenile for my taste. However, at $.99 I was willing to give her another chance. LOL

Oooh. Throne of Bones is a verrrry interesting book. Definitely in the "not for all tastes" league. The stories were inspired by Clark Ashton Smith, and they have flesh-eating, oversexed ghouls. There's humor, but it goes in the realllly not for all tastes league.

Heehee - I have it. I know, not my normal fare, but his writing is just so good...

LOL Wald.

Just a reminder that today is the last day of the 100 Books for $3.99 or Less sale at Amazon.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.htm...d_i=1286228011

Not much in the way of horror except one I posted about previously, Anno Dracula, and

Bedbugs by Ben H. Winters, which looks pretty creepy.

Quote:
FOR RENT: Top two floors of beautifully renovated brownstone, 1300 sq. ft., 2BR 2BA, eat-in kitchen, one block to parks and playgrounds. No broker’s fee.

Susan and Alex Wendt have found their dream apartment.

Sure, the landlady is a little eccentric. And the elderly handyman drops some cryptic remarks about the basement. But the rent is so low, it’s too good to pass up.

Big mistake. Susan soon discovers that her new home is crawling with bedbugs . . . or is it? She awakens every morning with fresh bites, but neither Alex nor their daughter Emma has a single welt. An exterminator searches the property and turns up nothing. The landlady insists her building is clean. Susan fears she’s going mad—until a more sinister explanation presents itself: she may literally be confronting the bedbug problem from Hell.
$2.79 at Amazon, $2.62 at Kobo with a 25% off coupon,
$2.67 plus a $.20 rebate at BOB.

Yeah, Bedbugs does sound pretty creepy.

I try to follow "bedbug safe" techniques (to a point--some of the measures seem very extreme to me). But still can't decide if I want to read about them , even in a horror setting.
