Would you ever buy a non front-lit e-ink reader?

I don't think I could. My Kobo Glo died over Christmas, and I tried to go back to my Sony PRS-T1 (which I do actually prefer as a device). Couldn't do it. I've become ridiculously dependent on the light, not just for reading in dark places, but to enhance reading everywhere. I find it so much easier to read with light, often because it reduces the effect of shadows on the screen. Whilst I could still read in these situations, the light makes it much easier on my eyes.

Bought the Nook Simple Touch with glow light for my wife. I like that you can turn off the light when you don't need it. It has an SD card slot so the hidden partition is not that big of a problem. The next one I buy for me will have a back light.

I mostly don't use the light, still reading on my T1.

It's still usefull when power and light goes off in the métro, and in dimly light places.

Yeah, but how many of those dimly-lit places that you actually now read in (as opposed to just being able to read in) are places you can't just turn on a normal light? Not many, I'm expecting.

Inside the métro. I spent lots of my time reading there.

No. I mainly read at night and find my Paperwhite to be a major improvement over all my other Kindles with lighted covers.

And I wannna wanna wah wah really really want a paperwhite. Bought one for my husband for Christmas and it is so much better than my kk. Only snag is I can't put audiobooks on it, but I can use my phone for that.

No. I don't think I could ever go back to awful look of eInk after using my PW. I'm spoiled and my K3 and K4s just sit there looking lonely. The light makes a huge difference. If I even look at my other Kindles I see this dirty screen and go right back to my PW.

As some have mentioned, the front light not only facilitates reading in a variety of settings and situations, but it also removes the 'grayish/greenish' tint that e-ink is infamous for.

Personally, this never really bothered me - I've been an e-ink adopter since the Sony PRS 500 and have seen the screens get progressively faster and less dark.

Now, with a front-lit technology in place, these earlier screens that I found more than readable are now almost unreadable.

I could never go back, although I still have a Pocketbook 360 that sits in a closet unloved and alone.

I have Kindle Paperwhite and I still prefer to read on my old - and failing - PB360. I am usually reading in places where there is sufficient light. I use PW when I go for vacation to places where there are less-than-ideal lightning conditions. I value pocketability of my PB360 more than the light on PW. Not to mention much, *MUCH* better software.

My whole apartment is poor lighting so for me that would be everywhere I read the PW is needed.
