Stephen Hunter

Anyone like this guy? He's got some good books, also some pretty kickass characters... Earl Swagger and his son, Bob The Nailer to name two. I like his books for what they are... pure pulp. I can start and finish one of his books and enjoy most of it on a long flight.

What do you think?

I like his books overall. Point of Impact, the first Bob Lee Swager book was the best.
The 4Th The 47Th Samurai I did not like because I found it totally implausible. I think mostly because I find it ridiculous that someone could become an excellent swordsman in a matter of months.

Oh yes, great fun. Definitely liked old Earl's character.

Bob was just a bit too much larger than life for my taste. I'm thinking of the scene when he and the writer get ambushed by a car-loads of assassins. Too "ho-hum, that was easy." The mercenaries assaulting him on the hill was more probable, lol.

I liked "point of Impact", (hated the movie), but the character seemed to trail off after the first book. Same stuff over and over.

i wanted to vote "double yep" but it was not an option.

imo, "point of impact" is a classic. "black light" and "time to hunt" are also very, very good. how he ties it all together in TTH is amazing.

some of his other works are not so great, but i read 'em all anyway.

Option 4 is "Point of Impact was good, and a couple other of the Bob/Earl novels, but Earl turned into a Gary Stu character. Punched out Hemingway? C'mon."

"Can we whack it?" "Yes we can!"

Sure, I love Bob the Nailer. He's a badass. Would've made a good movie if they had someone older and grizzled like Tom Berenger, but he carries his own baggage (having starred in a movie called Sniper).
