Ipad 3 not recognized by Calibre
Hi,
I have two issues: I have converted and transferred a book to ITunes and it shows up with my other books okay. While I can sync and transfer all my other books to my Ipad, the new one that I published myself will not come across to the ipad from the iTunes library. The second issue is that I then tried to go direct from Calibre to the ipad 3 but Calibre will not recognise the ipad. I have gone through the forums and installed the IOS etc plug in for Apple but to no avail. The following is the Debug info that I think is the last resort. Here it is: calibre 1.42 [64bit] isfrozen: True is64bit: True Windows-8-6.2.9200 Windows ('64bit', 'WindowsPE') ('Windows', '8', '6.2.9200') Python 2.7.5 Windows: ('8', '6.2.9200', '', 'Multiprocessor Free') USB devices on system: [u'usb\\vid_05dc&pid_a209&rev_0102', u'usb\\vid_046d&pid_c52b&rev_1201', u'usb\\vid_1926&pid_0344&rev_7202', u'usb\\vid_1a40&pid_0101&rev_0111', u'usb\\vid_046d&pid_c52b&rev_1201&mi_01', u'usb\\vid_0550&pid_0100&rev_0001&mi_00', u'usb\\vid_8087&pid_0024&rev_0000', u'usb\\vid_0bc2&pid_3320&rev_0100', u'usb\\root_hub20&vid8086&pid1e2d&rev0004', u'usb\\vid_046d&pid_c52b&rev_1201&mi_02', u'usb\\vid_0550&pid_0100&rev_0001&mi_01', u'usb\\vid_12d1&pid_1506&rev_0102', u'usb\\vid_12d1&subclass_02&prot_02', u'usb\\vid_8087&pid_0024&rev_0000', u'usb\\vid_12d1&subclass_02&prot_16', u'usb\\root_hub30&vid8086&pid1e31&rev0004', u'usb\\vid_05ac&pid_12a4&rev_0310&mi_00', u'usb\\vid_0550&pid_0100&rev_0001&mi_02', u'usb\\vid_12d1&subclass_02&prot_03', u'usb\\vid_1926&pid_0344&rev_7202&mi_02', u'usb\\vid_2109&pid_2812&rev_8570', u'usb\\vid_1926&pid_0344&rev_7202&mi_01', u'usb\\vid_1926&pid_0344&rev_7202&mi_00', u'usb\\root_hub20&vid8086&pid1e26&rev0004', u'usb\\vid_13fe&pid_4100&rev_0100', u'usb\\vid_12d1&subclass_06&prot_50', u'usb\\vid_05ac&pid_12a4&rev_0310', u'usb\\vid_0bda&pid_573d&rev_0001&mi_00', u'usb\\vid_0bda&pid_573d&rev_0001', u'usb\\vid_046d&pid_c52b&rev_1201&mi_00', u'usb\\vid_0550&pid_0100&rev_0001'] Drives detected: (0) H:\ ~ \\?\STORAGE#VOLUME#_??_USBSTOR#DISK&VEN_&PROD_USB_ DISK_2.0&REV_PMAP#0702339A93542E75&0#{53F56307-B6BF-11D0-94F2-00A0C91EFB8B}#{53F5630D-B6BF-11D0-94F2-00A0C91EFB8B} (0) G:\ ~ \\?\STORAGE#VOLUME#_??_USBSTOR#DISK&VEN_LEXAR&PROD _USB_FLASH_DRIVE&REV_8.07#20130922140728718ADC&0#{ 53F56307-B6BF-11D0-94F2-00A0C91EFB8B}#{53F5630D-B6BF-11D0-94F2-00A0C91EFB8B} No disabled plugins Looking for devices of type: MTP_DEVICE List of WPD PNP ids: [u'\\\\?\\swd#wpdbusenum#_??_usbstor#disk&ven_lexar &prod_usb_flash_drive&rev_8.07#20130922140728718ad c&0#{53f56307-b6bf-11d0-94f2-00a0c91efb8b}#{6ac27878-a6fa-4155-ba85-f98f491d4f33}', u'\\\\?\\swd#wpdbusenum#{61b26218-6b8d-11e3-8250-7c0507730dda}#0000000000800000#{6ac27878-a6fa-4155-ba85-f98f491d4f33}', u'\\\\?\\swd#wpdbusenum#_??_usbstor#disk&ven_&prod _usb_disk_2.0&rev_pmap#0702339a93542e75&0#{53f5630 7-b6bf-11d0-94f2-00a0c91efb8b}#{6ac27878-a6fa-4155-ba85-f98f491d4f33}', u'\\\\?\\usb#vid_05ac&pid_12a4&mi_00#0#{6ac27878-a6fa-4155-ba85-f98f491d4f33}'] MTP device: \\?\usb#vid_05ac&pid_12a4&mi_00#0#{6ac27878-a6fa-4155-ba85-f98f491d4f33} {'device_version': u'7.1.1', 'friendly_name': u'Apple iPad', 'has_bulk_properties': True, 'has_storage': True, 'manufacturer_name': u'Apple Inc.', 'model_name': u'Apple iPad', 'protocol': u'MTP: 1.00', 'serial_number': u'DYTHL1CNDVD3', 'storage': [{'capacity': 63417876480L, 'capacity_objects': 0L, 'description': u'Internal Storage', 'filesystem': u'DCF', 'free_objects': 36030L, 'free_space': 54045294592L, 'id': u's10001', 'name': u'Internal Storage', 'rw': True, 'type': u'fixed_ram'}], 'type': 'unknown'} Not a suitable MTP device, ignoring No suitable MTP devices found Looking for devices... u'usb\\vid_05ac&pid_12a4&rev_0310&mi_00' Devices possibly connected: None Well that's it. You need to ask in the Calibre forum, not here.

I can't help with the first issue, and can't read the diagnostics of the second. But I do know that the only time I've been able to connect to any of my iPads from Calibre with the IOS plug-in and the book program called "Marvin".
Even after installed, you have to open Marvin and while in the main menu, click the lower left corner and click "Get Books". Then Calibre will find the Ipad and show the "Marvin" icon when it's connected. I don't think that there's anything in Calibre that will see inside an iDevice's drive in order to write books. Outside of Calibre, I use Filemanager to connect to my main drive, and transfer epub files to the Ipad that way. When I click on them in the File manager it then asks me what program I want to open them in. And I can use IFunBox to write files directly to the file sharing space of what ever programs store their info there. Although those programs may or may not recognize the files once they're open. It's trial and error to find out. Also, if using both the Marvin and IOS plug in and Calibre, I've found that Calibre can't recognize the iPad if two iDevices are plugged into the computer at the same time. Maybe this will help in some way. |

Hi Harry,
For some reason I thought this forum dealt with Calibre issues. I'll have another look around on the web and see if there's a forum dedicated to it alone. Cheers |

No, this is the "Apple Devices" forum. The Calibre forum is the forum called "Calibre", and that's where the Calibre experts (and developer) are to be found.

Hi DuskyRose,
Thanks for your response. I'll have a look at Marvin but only as a last resort. I want to see if there's a way of achieving what I want without installing any more programs. Harry reckons I'm looking in the wrong forum so I'll check that out first and if I don't have any luck, then I'll follow your advice and install Marvin. Thanks |

What Harry's saying is to ask your question in the Calibre section of Mobile Read, specifically the devices sub forum.
Here's a link... https://www.mobileread.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=234 |

The devices scan that you posted is showing exactly what is supposed to happen -- it is ignoring iDevices as not being Android/Windows MTP devices.
I do not know why iOS Reader Applications is refusing to sense iBooks (I assume that is what you are using?) but it may be the same reason why it is not working directly from iTunes either. The iOS Reader Applications plugin uses iTunes to connect with iBooks. Regardless, you should probably ask the plugin developer directly, see thread: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=241143 First try the My iDevice is not recognized by calibre. section of the first post there. If that doesn't work, submit your debug info as directed there. |

Hi Everyone,
Thanks for all your advice and as luck would have it, I have stumbled onto the fix myself and I do mean stumbled. I was fooling around on iTunes with my Ipad 3 connected and syncing to try and get the book across and getting nowhere as usual. On impulse, I tried dragging and dropping the selected book onto the Ipad icon. Lo and behold, I could actually see it transferring. When I opened my Ipad, it wasn't there. Dark thoughts of conspiracy against me by Apple began forming in my mind when I happened to notice that at the top menu bar of ibooks, the 'Purchased Books' was highlighted. I clicked on 'Books' and my own book leapt onto the screen with all of the others. Problem solved. Now all I have to do is remember what I did in the first place to get it onto ITunes. As they say, it is the journey that excites you rather than the end of it. Nah, that's a crock. Thanks everyone. |
