you have the weirdest requests. this one is almost surreal. maybe that's partly because it's very late here and i should be in bed.
(and no, i don't have any punch cards for you, sorry). |

Have you checked with the Palm Beach County Voting Commission? They may still have some left over from the 2000 election.
Sorry, I couldn't resist. Unfortunately, I can't help, either. |

How many is a large quantity? And do you really want them punched?
I still have part of a box of cards somewhere in the house. We used them for taking notes instead of 3x5 cards. I don't know where I can find a punch machine, and they might not pass through one well due to having absorbed moisture over the years. Edit to add: the box originally held 2000 cards, I've probably got about 1/3 of them left -- assuming I can find them. |

So give me an idea how many you think you'd need. And do you really need them punched? Do you expect someone to key the punching? Or will you provide a file that can be punched to the cards with the appropriate peripherals attached to a computer? I work in IT and might be able to locate both cards and a system with an attached punch.

Are we talking about 80-column cards? What we used to call "IBM cards"?
If so, no doubt some of us aged computer programmers have a supply stached away somewhere (I haven't). But where on earth would you get someone to punch them for you? |

I worked in the Machine Accounting room at IBM back in punched-card days. We used to look after all these sophisticated card-sorters, collating machines, tabulators, etc. Punched cards were the driving spirit of our deparment, and we couldn't conceive of a time when they would no longer be used.
An army of "punch girls" (yes, we really did call them that) would punch thousands of card a day. But on a shelf in the corner of the shop, we had a little hand-punch for use in an emergency. It enabled you to punch one card at a time, using obscure combinatations of keys. We called in Horace. |

those 'little' hand punches were often a nightmare, especially when you made a mistake towards the end ......
