Bellem, Robert Leslie: The Wacky Detective Stories of....Bellem. v1. 04 May 08

This title was released under a Creative Commons License, with additional acknowledgement placed at the end of the book. Book was acquired from Munseys, BUT REFORMATED BY ME TO MY SPECIFICATIONS.
_______________________________________

Robert Leslie Bellem, a man who uses the English language as if hearing it for the first time.

From the wiki:

Bellem's most famous creation was the hardboiled detective Dan Turner, whose stories were written in the first person in a racy, slangy style that made them extremely popular. Set against the background of the Hollywood film industry (of which Bellem had personal knowledge), the Dan Turner stories appeared first in the pages of Spicy Detective (subsequently retitled Speed Detective) and later in his "own" magazine, Hollywood Detective, which ran from January 1942 to October 1950."

Want a taste of Bellem and of Dan Turner's first person narration? Then check this out:

"From the doorway a roscoe said 'Kachow!' and a slug creased the side of my noggin. Neon lights exploded inside my think-tank. . . . She was as dead as a stuffed mongoose. . . . I wasn't badly hurt. But I don't like to be shot at. I don't like dames to be rubbed out when I'm flinging woo at them."

There are only 5 Dan Turner, Hollywood Detective stories here. The other 3 are misc. mysteries. I've also included 5 pulp covers for your enoyment.

I hope you have fun with this collection.

Don

NOTE: As I discover more stories, I'll continue to add to this book. Also, this is my title. Attritubion is at the end of the collection, all individually downloaded.

Excellent! I love these stories. Bellum had a way with words that still brings my mind to a complete halt. I remember one story we he described someone as being dead as "a bucket of chopped bait." I was first introduced to him by S.J. Perelman in his hilarious "Somewhere a Roscoe," article. Thanks for posting this.
