Kindle installed base?

somewhere I read the citatin that the Kindle is the most popular ebook reader in the United States, with approximately 43 % of the installed base for ereaders.

But I didn't document where I found that percentage, and my google-fu doesn't seem to be up to finding a good source for it, although I do see it used a lot as a sort of "common knowledge".

Does anyone have a good source for research that I can use to validate that figure?

Thanks!

Amazon doesn't release sales numbers for the Kindle, so whatever figure you come across on the web will just be someone's guess.

According to this, the Kindle US market share back in February was 67 percent. As a Philadelphia transit rider, it seems to me that Amazon has a majority of the eInk market.

I notice that, on this board, there are more Sony posts than Kindle. This could reflect Sony owners spending more hours with their device than other brands. It also may reflect Kindle being dominant in only one country (the US).

I wonder what the mobileread stats would be if you just took the past year. Has anyone done a more or less careful study of the Mobileread stats?

Bezos said something about the #'s in his keynote a few weeks ago. Not an exact # but he said something.
