epub formatting question

hi guys,

i just bought a prs 650 and just learning the ropes in calibre. I'm trying to convert novels in pdf form to epub. I've tried so many different settings but just could not figure out how to format the text. I'm not sure how to explain it but they all look like this:

“Incredible. Why didn’t Felipe kill Victor?” I asked.

“I’ve given that a lot of thought, of course. I think Felipe has to pretend he believes Victor. I think Felipe realizes that in making

Victor his lieutenant in charge of the whole state of Louisiana, he has inflated Victor’s ambitions to the point of indecency.”

Above is a snippet from a pdf that has been converted to epub. Sentences keeps getting cut randomly and is treated like a new paragraph.

Could anyone help please? I will be forever grateful!!

When using calibre to convert a PDF, the PDF Input tab has a field labeled Line Un-Wrapping Factor. I've never used it but in theory it would help to prevent awkward line breaks like you got.

But to be perfectly honest with you, I've never been able to get calibre or any other program to do a decent job of converting PDFs. In all fairness I think calibre is great, but the nature of PDFs is such that getting a decent conversion depends on how the PDF was created and most of the PDFs I've tried to convert were terribly formed.

Good luck!

To make life easier, pretend that PDF doesn't exist.

I've been experimenting with converting PDF files in Calibre for my Sony 350 reader.. so far the best output format has been ".rtf". It produces incredibly sharp output, and no weird page breaks...

Sweet! What value are you using for the 'Line Un-Frapping Factor'?

I've found the best value for the prs-350 is 0.3 with the margins set to 0.0.

Thanks! I wonder if that would work for the 650? I'll have to try it out.

I tried 0.6 on the 350 and the word wrapping was out.

I ended up with sentences
like this
and all over the place.

I'm not sure if the extra inch on the 650 will make a difference.
