Question PDF to EPUB batch/script conversion ?

Hi Folks.
I finally got myself a reader that does EPUBs and would like to do the very thing illustrated in post #6 by Manichean in this prior thread:
Where the command line structure is:
Quote:
for %%i in (*.pdf) do start /wait ebook-convert "%%i" "%%i.epub"
And now I feel very stupid - because I'm pretty sure that is not actually batch file syntax - or is it and I am just being VERY stupid ?

Would someone please show me how the command line tool ebook-convert.exe can be engaged for batch conversion using that info ?

Thanks for any help !

If I remember correctly, I used that exact syntax to test-convert some books directly from the command line. It should also be possible to use the command in a script, if you prefer or need that.

Hi and thanks !
I opened a command window at that folder and tried it and it did not work.

As it stands I've got several different folders with PDFs in them and additionally need to specify paths for input and output or I'd have to copy them a folder at a time into Calibre's program folder for conversion (if I had to).

So - from your reply I'm thinking this is just used as a command-line and not from a batch file or script file ?

Thanks again !

This error description pops up a lot, and it's still the least helpful I can think of. What exactly didn't work? Were there error messages? If so, what did they say?

Well, yeah. That line, as I posted it and you quoted it, only looks for PDFs in the current directory. For subdirectories, you'd have to call it manually or modify it to recurse, which I have given zero thought to

I used it as commandline only, but I cannot see a single reason why it wouldn't work in a batch file (for this context, by the way, batch file == script file).

My apologies for the vagueness.
The error page was quite long and started with a complaint that 'for' was not recognized - but that is as specific as I can remember. I will try it again tomorrow, right now I must get ready for work.

I will also copy a bunch of those PDFs into the same directory and try it that way.

Thanks !

You are actually using Windows, right? And the normal command line interface? I used the command on XP.
