calibre 0.8.51 for ubuntu 10.04
I'm trying to have calibre 0.8.51 on my linux, unfortunately depository only install 0.6 and when I try to get it by the terminal page as:
http://calibre-ebook.com/download_linux after downloading 1583 bytes of it I get this error: Code:
Downloaded 1583 bytes Checking downloaded file integrity... bzip2: (stdin) is not a bzip2 file. tar: Child returned status 2 tar: Exiting with failure status due to previous errors Traceback (most recent call last): File "<string>", line 1, in <module> File "<string>", line 285, in main File "<string>", line 243, in download_and_extract File "<string>", line 228, in download_tarball File "/usr/local/lib/python2.7/subprocess.py", line 511, in check_call raise CalledProcessError(retcode, cmd) subprocess.CalledProcessError: Command '[u'tar', u'tjf', '/tmp/tmpyr0pT_']' returned non-zero exit status 2 I also downloaded the .tar.bz2 but I couldn't figure out what to do with it? I couldn't find any setup.py file in that |

The command line install works great on both
12.04 and 11.10 (both are 32 bit, Unity, and all recommended updates have been applied) |

Just trying it in a newly installed Ubuntu 10.04 32 bit environment; no issues at all.

Then what is my problem? I tried the same thing on my friends KDE 10.10 too and got the same error after downloading exactly 1583 bytes.
can you give me a hint on using the calibre-0.8.50-x86_64.tar.bz2 ? |

I think (s)he did... somehow looks like their download does not work properly. There is a thread on how to install manually, but something tells me this will not work for them either.

Sure ducks, it starts downloading and stops in the middle for the reason I can't figure out.
Guess it's not supposed for me to use calibre 0.8 in linux, evern manual installation gives this error: /opt/calibre/bin/calibre_postinstall: 1: ELF: not found /opt/calibre/bin/calibre_postinstall: 2: Syntax error: "(" unexpected Diap why is that so? |

If you're using Ubuntu 10.04 (32-bit) and want to try the manual install, then you need to download and use the calibre-X.X.XX-i686.tar.bz2 package and not the calibre-X.X.XX-x86_64.tar.bz2 package (which is only for 64-bit OSs). Last edited by DiapDealer; 05-18-2012 at 09:31 PM. |

Is it me or does it seem that Linux has more issue then it's worth?
