The only thing interesting about the article is the catchy title.

His advice of "if you don't think you'll use it, don't buy it" is not only too obvious for words, but applies to any purchase. I see nothing that is specific to ereaders. It must have been a slow news day, or he couldn't think up a better topic before his deadline.

So he has written an article about the issues of two people in his office. And the concerns of another colleague gifting an ebook reader to his mother. Can I have my 5 minutes back please.

What a shocking revelation!

The same could be said of a DSLR camera, a computer, or any piece of exercise equipment.

I got the impression that he felt those examples were a reflection of the real world.

Pretty poor article IMHO. I know people who prefer paper and that is fine. I know people who prefer ebooks. Each to their own. Perhaps we all ought to contribute to a cnet article entitles "Why we don't need to read rubbish articles".

The author, David Carnoy, has written a number of frankly silly pieces in the year I have been following e-readers. Some people like to run around stirring things up or creating false controversies like the author of a New York Times pieces concerned with the "stigma" of being seen reading in public alone. Whatever, as some kids say.

Prior to today, I've never seen anything remotely useful or relevant posted on CNET... and nothing has changed today.

Where do you buy shoes that cost more then $189? I'm guessing one of the shops in the Prudential Mall.
