Sorting by Author

Hi all I have a fair sized ebook collection and have used Calibre to edit all the books so they are in the correct format i.e. all the author names have been edited lastname/first name format but when sorting by author it doesn't sort them properly as in the meta data on the books are sorted by first name/last name and some lastname/first name. Is there a quick way to easily remove that meta data entry so it will sort by the authors name that I've changed doing batch renaming. Hope that makes sense. Lastly thanks for Calibre looks a great program.
