I highly recommend "Free Culture" from Lawrence Lessig too: http://www.feedbooks.com/book/2750

Techdirt's point of view is usually very interesting too: http://www.techdirt.com

No, I meant that it's equally an example of crass commercial exploitation as anything that Disney has to offer. ie Disney aren't alone in doing that kind of thing.

Oh, ok. I object less to crass commercial exploitation and more to trying to extend copyright to infinity and beyond (whoops, that was a Disney™ phrase).

Can you get any more crass than Asterix chips? (or crisps, depending on who you ask). I wonder if they sell Obelix condoms?

heh...

and technically, astérix theme park is not *in* paris, and as acidzebra said, while they may be exploiting the original bd for all they're worth, they are not (to my knowledge) trying to extend copyright to infinity and beyond (oh noes, is disney going to sue us for copyright infringement there ? or can we argue fair use ?). so they may be a little icky, but they're not actually evil incarnate.

Oh my .... what to do, what to do. Here I am practically worshiping the Mouse and the Duck (hallowed be their names), and a good friend thinks they are "evil incarnate." A conundrum to be sure.
