new links to New York Times content
I just found a small series of very interesting links into New York Times content.
First of all, I discovered a batch of New York Times rss feeds. iSilo doesn't support rss yet, but Sitescooper does, and I think that I'll have to write a little site file to exploit them. Also, I found this page that appears to be feeding all the latest NYTimes headlines into one jumbled page. Presumably it could be filtered down into something more reasonable. The links all go straight to the articles in the times, which could work okay if you ignored the pictures... More likely, however, it's another great avenue for Sitescooper to work some magic. On a somewhat unrelated note, I also found this, this, and this one, which document how there is a way to create permanent links to NYTimes content that will not require archive access later. This is great news for bloggers who want a link that will last. Finally, there's this odd site that started the whole ball rolling for me. No comment on the goals of a random login generator, but perhaps someone can find it useful. Rock it! |

another NY Times source
I know there are a ton of ways to get various pieces of NY Times content onto PDAs, but I couldn't find precisely what I was looking for: a single, newspaper-like document with all of the content divided by section.
I used one of the links that Ignatz provided above to create a more organized page on my website. My program gets articles from the current day's paper only, and it links to the text-only versions of the articles. I also cut out the sections I don't read (like Sports, NY Regional news and the Business section). It's easy to modify the Perl code, though, and I can post the code here if anyone is interested in creating their own version. As always, I'm scooping that link with iSilo, but any program should be fine. happy reading, --Ash. Last edited by aranpura; 10-18-2004 at 05:59 PM. |

working now...?
Seems to be working now. The program pulls only the current day's content, so if you tried to access it before the New York Times posted the current content to their RSS feed (say, very early in the morning) the page may have come up blank.

What's wrong with http://tupalmx.com/pruebasphp/grab_NYT-2.php ?
Seems to work just fine for me. Also, aranpura your page seems to duplicate (and even triplicate at times) lots of the content. To verify take a look at the "international", "homepage" and "national" sections today. |
