Now that it looks like the Kindle is getting a "Lend me" feature...
Maybe we should get a sub forum to nicely ask for loaner books

Its a one time only deal per book. It'd have to be somebody really generous to randomly give it out :P

Can we please close all the duplicate lend me feature threads or merge them all?

What if Amazon had a physical proximity limitation to initiating the lending? The Kindle could use its new microphone to chirp back and forth a token, which would be part of the authentication. That would make it simple-stupid to select which friend, neighbor, or truck-stop stranger you want to share with. At the same time, they don't have to worry about the sharing feature getting around *too* well, and the limitation would give better uptake with publishers.
And no, there's too much lag with sharing the audio tokens via phone or internet. You can't cheat that way. |

That and I suspect that most of the publishing houses will disable lending for their books. For those books that can eventually be lent, lending will probably occur mostly between family members and close friends.

Perhaps a silly question, but I have a problem with lending books and getting it returned with passages underlined/the occasionnally tear, and so on. It makes me s(m)ad. That's the reason I hardly loan a paper book out, except to close friends.
If I would lend a Kindle-book out: could anyone fool or experiment around with it? I mean, something like the equivalent of the above problem? edit: excuse me, should have posted it in the other lending thread; can't the two not be combined? Last edited by desertblues; 10-24-2010 at 01:53 PM. |

You should be safe with ebook lending though. Probably no tears there. |
