Qualcomm abandons Mirasol eReader (for now)

According to this article -- "Qualcomm boss confirms Mirasol ereader canned" -- well, you get the gist.

However, it doesn't look like they are abandoning the technology, but instead are shifting focus towards "tablets" with their billion dollar investment, and an eReader still isn't out of the question.

If they make a general purpose device capable of reading ebooks, I don't think it will a big deal. Most people here are after the tech. My interest in ereaders isn't simply because it is a device that just reads ebooks, but because they're a device that can read ebooks and do it with a good display. If there were mirasol or eink screens on smartphones, or tablets, you'd not be sacrificing like you have to now.

Looks like some of us have been waiting for what seems like years for a reader with a mirasol display and now that dream has apparently been squashed.

Not squashed. That particular ereader is dead, not Mirasol.

Perhaps they should team up with "Publisher's Clearinghouse" ?
