I like stories and poems about loneliness - recommendations, bros?

Hmm...

I would start with Dostoevsky's Crime and Punishment and then Kafka's The Trial. Also, you would probably love A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess.

Thus Spoke Zarathustra: A Book for All and None by Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche is not technically a poem, but the entire book is written in poetic prose. He speaks often in the book of his loneliness. You may find it interesting.

i was forced to read crime/punishment in high school. hated it. read cliff notes. still hated it.
i will check out kafka's trial. soderbergh's movie was ass.

why do you think i would like clockwork orange?
movie was numbed-ass. book's writing was unintelligible to the nonrussian or noninsane person.
normally i like works that are unintelligible to the russian insane person.
i like vladimir mayakovsky, after all... he was russian and insane.

The book was written in futuristic slang invented by Burgess (who is British, not Russian). I thought you might like it because it's a dystopian novel that is loved by every long-haired, chain-smoking, depressed bad boy that I've ever met.

Maybe you should just try the Nietzsche instead.

The Tunnel by Ernesto Sabato. It's a short novel about a man who writes from prison to explain why he killed the woman he loved (that's how the novel begins, no spoilers). I prefer Sabato's second novel, On heroes and Tombs, by that's by no means a short one. I don't think they've been released as ebooks, though.

The Lover by Marguerite Duras. It's the story of a French girl isolated in the Indochine, a French colony by then (Vietnam and Laos nowadays, I think). She is in love with a foreigner she despises. Very erotic and sad.

Norwegian Wood by a Haruki Murakami. It's not a short novel, but it's a very sad and moving love story; the main characters feel very lonely indeed.

Dying Inside by Robert Silverberg. About a telepath who is losing his ability to read other people's minds and begin to feel an invisible wall around him.

The Book of Disquiet by Fernando Pessoa, widely considered the best Portuguese poet ever. This is not a book of poems, though. I think this is the only book I haven't able to finish because it made me feel too sad.

I can't recommend you poems, as I only read poetry in Spanish, my native language.

Well, that's enough loneliness for now.

i love the books of haruki murakami for their loneliness. i feel like how the characters feel sometimes. i read them and think, i feel like that, then i "lol" by myself while people in the bookstore stare at me.

i like fernando pessoa too. his style of loneliness is very funny to me.

The Sparrow by Mary Doria Russell might be said to have themes of depression and loneliness, and is popular with many (though I found the depression and loneliness that I felt reading it arose not from her intent...I don't like the book or its sequel much).
