For aficionados of paranormal phenomena, publisher Stackpole is offering 3 location-themed collections of tales of supposedly true-life ghosts and spooky stuff from their "Haunted" series.
These are free @ Amazon (not available to Canadians). Haunted New York City: Ghosts and Strange Phenomena of the Big Apple by Cheri Reval. America's most populated city is also home to many ghosts and strange creatures of the night. The most bizarre and frightening stories of the paranormal from the five boroughs are compiled in this volume, including the phantom searching for lost gold in the Parrish House in the Bronx, the demonic flying Coney Island Monster in Brooklyn, the haunted St. Paul s Chapel in Manhattan, the raving ghost of Mount Olivet Cemetery in Queens, the restless spirits that peer from the windows of the Kreischer Mansion in Staten Island, and many others. Haunted Illinois: Ghosts and Strange Phenomena of the Prairie State by Troy Taylor, illustrated by Heather Adel Wiggins The mysterious and often violent history of Illinois has made the state a haven for restless spirits. This volume explores the supernatural side of the Prairie State, with stories on the horrors of an old slave house, the numerous spirits of Alton's McPike Mansion, the cemetery where the dead walk, the Spring Valley Vampire, the ghosts of the Bartonville Asylum, Chicago's famous Resurrection Mary, and the spirit world of Abraham Lincoln. Haunted Virginia: Ghosts and Strange Phenomena of the Old Dominion by L.B. Taylor Jr. The Old Dominion has been one of the nation's most embattled states. Serving as center stage for both the Revolution and the Civil War, it is also one of the most haunted. In addition to the sagas of the tragic spirits from these wars, this volume includes stories on the female stranger of Gadsby's Tavern in Alexandria, the mysterious stone showers in Newport, the ghost hound of the Blue Ridge, Mad Lucy of Williamsburg, and the spirits of native sons Thomas Jefferson, Robert E. Lee, and Edgar Allan Poe. |

I've read a few books previously by Mr. Taylor (he lives in my general area) - they're less about detailed sightings and more about colorful places with legends about ghosts tied to them.
More folklore than ghosts, but very very interesting. |
