Circled M or S at the bottom of the screen

On my Sony Reader Pocket Edition, it often times shows a circled S or M at the bottom left of the screen. Does anyone know what this means? Also, on the right, a circled - sometimes appears.

Circled S, M & L are the Font sizes

:-)

Pressing the button at the bottom (magnifying glass with plus symbol) toggles through the available sizes.

the letter is the font size.. change your font and you'll see the letter change. on the right it's a little yield sign (circle with a horizontal line through it). it's their version of a stopwatch, means the reader is doing something.

Oh! Thanks for clarification. I hate missing the blatantly intuitive things... I thought it had something to do with how the book was formatted... :S

Actually, the circle with a line (-) isn't a yield, it's a "do not enter," meaning the button you've pressed does not do anything on the current screen. For example, if I'm on the main menu and hit the bookmark button, it will display (-) to indicate that my button press is not accepted.
