Can't convert .doc file to .mobi

I am trying to convert .doc to.mobi and get this annoying message:

can't convert 1 of 1 books, because no suitable source format was found.

Should not it be an easy task for Calibre?

Any Help is appreciated.

Calibre does not handle .doc files. Save it as html filtered, then drag that into Calibre and convert to anything you want.

In case you use Openoffice, you can open it there and save as odt and input that to Calibre - at least I had better results with this route rather than doc->html.
