I do wonder how they can measure battery life in page flips when it has HSIS. 25,000 page flips sounds good till you think just how often the page is going to change. It sounds like just opening a menu will be a lot of page flips.

This has just been posted on the bookeen blog "Bookeen will announce this Monday November 7th the price and launch date of the Cybook Odyssey.
See you Monday…" |

Wonderful! I got a refurbished Sony PRS-350 and I don't love it, although my problems may be a screen defect (excessive flashing compared to my 505). I'm going to return it if I can (and I better be able to) and I'm looking forward to what B&N and Bookeen have to say on Monday.

Will this device display comics and manga (flipped controls etc) in the cbz/cbr formats?

Do you know if this topic has been broached to the Bookeen team before?
I notice that the cybooks can display a bunch of image formats... has anyone tried splitting the cbr/cbz into a folder of images and reading it that way? What's the experience like? Edit: it's monday! What time today did they set for the announcement? |

It should be possible and easy to convert the cbr/cbz to pdf, and many readers can display pdf, even with some "extra" functions such as zooming and cropping.

Is that a good experience though? I keep trying to read PDFs on these 6" 800x600 pixel screens and I've always been disappointed. I'm hoping the HSIS might make a difference but I'm a bit cynical at this point...

If you google "cybook odyssey pixmania", you can get to a page which Pixmania have obviously removed, but is still cached by Google. This suggests a price of £140 inc VAT in the UK (ie a smidge more than the Sony PRS-T1).

It's as good an experience as reading a cbr would be. PDFs are a problem when they are formatted for a large page size, as the text doesn't reflow. For image-based pages (as comics are) this would happen for any other format, so PDF is as good as anything else here. In the Cybooks, PDFs have the advantage that they can be displayed in real fullscreen, without silly margins being added.
