Sony PRS-950

Hi there,

I'm buying a Sony PRS-950 in good condition.
Screen needs to be in entirely pristine condition, while I can accept some small scratches on the device itself.

I'm willing to pay around 250$ + postage, a bit more if it comes with some swag you're dying to get rid of I'll be paying with my verified Paypal account,

It needs to be sent to Denmark, I'm up for personal transactions too if you live near Copenhagen.

So if your old device needs a good home, post here or send me a PM

It seems there isn't that many people with a leftover PRS-950

Is it the price? I thought 250 was pretty good, considering they sold for less than 200 retail at some point.

Or is it shipping to Denmark? I got an US friend who can act as a relay if your worried about the distance.

I paid $185 US dollars several months ago for mine on eBay. I was lucky and mine was in excellent condition. Your $250 offer is more than enough. I think there is a bit of a shortage of units that people are willing to ship overseas. It is a great reader. I adore mine.
Good luck.

Yes - these are in short supply - you would think Sony might have someone monitoring social media to notice that there is huge pent up demand for them!

I had one, and managed to kill it (broke the screen) - one of the saddest days of my life!

I originally had to purchase mine through a forwarding service in the US (as Sony was not selling in Australia). Ended up costing me around US$300 - but worth it.

I think the slightly larger screen format was the key thing for me - the form factor just seemed right - and the metal case was also much nicer than the newer plastic ones...handled epubs and pdfs pretty well.

The only slight annoyance I had was that it used to list collections spearately for the main memory and the memory card, but apart from that was everything I was looking for in the reader.... (not sure if this little 'glitch' has been 'fixed' on the TS1 - anyone know...?)

Anyway, you may need to go up to around $300 for this device as they are thin on the ground....

If you do get one, get a good case for it - and never, never, never leave it out of the case when you are not reading it!!

Good Luck

Í agree, that 250 is a very reasonable offer, yet... as it seems, most people who own one don't really want to give it up just yet. Im very happy with mine, and dont see any real upgrade to it out there.. if i do get an ipad, it is a different device and would not replace my reader.. 950 was and still is a great reader, probably the best reader in the world since crisp color readers for the same price range seem to be light years away, i'm not surprised the demand for the 950 surpasses the supply :P

I may be interested. I have two PRS-950s.. I love the 950, it is basically my dream device and I almost wanted to keep one as a back-up, but I've come to realize this is probably unnecessary, since I used my PRS-505 for 3.5 years without incident. I also need some cash because I just ordered an iPad 3.. still, while I saw this post a few days ago, I've been agonizing as I love my PRS-950 so much (but it doesn't make sense to have two..)

The only thing I am concerned about is shipping overseas. I'd be willing to ship to your U.S. friend with delivery confirmation/insurance via USPS Priority for $250 (and no extra for shipping), if he can handle it from there so that I can have proof of delivery for Paypal purposes. (Not to be too paranoid, but I was scammed on craiglist for a PRS-650 last year--posted about it in the Sony forums, and I've been rather wary since then..) I know international shipping with delivery confirmation is extremely expensive, but if you would rather pay for that postage including whatever the post office charges, which I would guess to be around $30 or so, that would be fine also.

The one I would sell, however, is not pristine exterior-wise. It was purchased as "like new" on craigslist, and the seller lied about the condition. the screen and the front are completely beautiful except for one MINISCULE tiny tiny nick at the bottom below the controls (not on the screen), which I didn't notice until I inspected it this weekend to post about the condition, but the back has a weird yellow highlighter mark and maybe a few faint scratches (hard to see) and the side of the device which is bright silver has a few nicks. I will take pictures and post soon, but I can say that none of the marks bother me at all in use as I keep it in an Oberon cover and never see the back or sides, and the e-ink screen is perfect, the battery life is great (I've used it since last october or November and only charge once every three weeks, around the 50% mark), and the device is snappy. It is seriously the love of my life and even now I'm questioning selling the device, even though strictly speaking, I don't need it.

I will take pictures today or tomorrow if you are still interested after hearing all of the above I could include a case that came with it from the seller, it fits perfectly but wouldn't be my choice as the material is some nylon-ish thing and it zips up, and I find the zippers rather annoying when holding it in book mode. The case, however, is incredibly protective for carrying around as the nylon is hard and no edges are exposed when closed. Also included would be a USB cord, but not the plug, as the PRS-950s never shipped with those and I imagine the voltage is different for your country anyways. I may also have the original documentation, but I can't make any promises.

Here's my flickr album showing the reader and the flaws as best as I could with an iphone camera and bad lighting.

You can see the flaws on the side (several nicks, one of them fairly large), and the one scratch/nick below the controls on the front. Also the faint scratches on the back and the yellow highlighter mark also on the back.

Again I know this isn't pristine, and sadly it was sold to me this way as Like New condition, but you know.. after initially being incensed at having been lied to, I haven't given it a second thought after a day or two. None of the flaws are readily visible during use except for the minor nick at the bottom of the front. The device itself has great battery life and I hope it's going to remain that way, because the battery needs to be charged so infrequently. The page turns are snappy and the screen is in perfect shape.

Please let me know if you have any problem viewing the pictures, and any other details you may wish to know. Currently the reader is running PRS+ but I can remove it and will delete all the books, etc.

ETA: I haven't sold on ebay, but I have on bonanza, and here's my feedback:

Only a few items but good feedback across the board

Let me know if/when you need a leather cover for your future 950. I have three and have only ever used one, but all three are nicer than anything available now. I've always intended to sell at least one MR to a real user (as opposed to reseller) for the same reduced price I paid originally.

I still need my 950 for doing readings (which is all it's used for), but if I didn't, I'd certainly offer it to you.
