Well, that party's passed by for now. Nominations are now closed and the poll will be up soon.

Since it also didn't make it, I did want to say that Damascus Nights looks intriguing, seemingly inspired by A Thousand and One Nights but when I read up on it I also thought of the Decameron.

Looking at all the nominations this month, what I find interesting is how many of the nominated authors left their original countries and wrote in another language from their original. We have Amin Maalouf who is from Lebanon, and now lives in France and writes in French; Leila Aboulela who was born in Egypt and grew up in Sudan, and now lives in Scotland and writes in English; Hisham Matar, though born in New York City, grew up in Libya and Egypt, and now lives in England and writes in English; Laila Lalami who if from Morocco and now lives in the United States and writes in English; and Rafik Schami who is from Syria and now lives in Germany and writes in German. That's fully half of our nominated authors.
