From the above URL:
Quote:
And Reema reported that the idea of a bookless library has been tried before — perhaps a bit too early. That was in 2002, when Arizona's Santa Rosa Branch Library went digital-only.

"Years later, however, residents — fatigued by the electronics — requested that actual books be added to the collection, and today, enjoy a full-access library with computers," Reema said.

I live in San Antonio and I would check this library out if it wasn't located clear across town in the south. Its just way to far out of the way for me to get to.
Would be interesting just to check it out.

Here is a local article with more details on what devices they bought, how many books and the demographic of the area.

Well, they're already flirting with scienceless textbooks so why not push the envelope a little further?

I hope they aren't actually using iMacs. Those SUCK to read on. Hell, I HATE working on them because they're freaking huge and I have to literally shrink the apps I'm working on to take up only the left bottom corner of the screen.

I might say, however, that I kindda like the challenge 3M borrowing presents. And I did just today find a couple books I've been wanting to read there.

What did that "savant" say?

"Our own children won't recognize us."

Well, maybe grandchildren.

I don't get it? I have three iMacs in my home, and I read on my 27" iMac for hours each day. How is it different from any other display?

I have a 17" matte iMac G4. I have no problem with that display. I also have a 13" MacBook Pro with a glossy display which I have no problems with.

But at my college, they have those 27" iMacs and it just overwhelms me. Because for ME personally, it's like sitting in front of a flatscreen TV, especially since they have them like right in your face. You know, you tend to setup a desktop at the back of a desk with the keyboard in front of you if it's against a wall. Well, move the screen 50% more towards you, and that's a typical classroom's setup.

I get lost pretty easily.

"Bookless"? It says right there they have 10 000 books available for library borrowers.

Jessica Lares: Your problem is with display size, not hardware manufacturer or OS. I don't understand why you're disapproving of iMacs in this context.

If enough time passes, it's likelier certain parents won't recognize their children than the other way around. You know what they say about Alzheimer's: "You're always making new friends."

Texas wants to do away with healthcare for anyone not a wealthy tea party member.

Texas also wants us to consider a Canadian as a candidate for president.
