Andy Ihnatko - How Apple Could Make E-books Work
Linky
There are some points I agree with, and some I don't. I almost wish Apple would develop an e-book reader so the "Apple would do it better" arguments could finally come to an end. Comments? |

The oracular Mr Jobs has told us all that "people don't read", so an Apple eBook reader ain't gonna happen.

And who would want to watch videos on a tiny iPod screen anyway...

Apple was one of the first into PCs, and one of the first with graphical interface. But they're not always first. The iPod certainly wasn't the first MP3 player, nor the iPhone the first mobile phone/MP3 player. My guess is that Apple have an eye on eBook readers, but that the technology isn't there yet to let them produce an eBook readers that Mr Jobs would be happy with. I think we will see an ebook reader and an ebook store from Apple, but not for a couple of years, at least. Paul |

You can already be cool and read books with the iPhone. I'm not sure how Mr. Jobs is going to make a big b&w screen cool? Maybe a roll out display?
"Add a Kindle-compatible reader to the App Store. The result could be a revolution." This could work. Of course Amazon could simply support the iPhone (and all other reading devices) all on its own. They seem to already have a pretty good store front ;-) though maybe it's not as cool as an iStore. |

Apple is constitutionally incapable of making ebooks work. They'll want to tie up everybody into their own little apple world. Even if they succeed in doing that, I would not categorize that as maing ebooks "work".

Apple already used the name iBook for their laptops so they wouldn't know what to call it.
Let's see... iTome iLivre iBuch oh just forget it you can't have one. |

They could make something like the Info Pad concept and call it the iPad.
