Reynolds, George W. M., The Mysteries of London, Second Series, Vol. 3
and Vol. 4, published from 1846 to 1848, by George Vickers, was reprinted
from sterotypes by John Dicks, but never republished until now.

The publication of the 3rd and the 4th volume of Reynolds' Mysteries of
London here on mobileread is the first complete edition after at least a hundred years.

It remains a mystery why the editor of the online version of the first
series at victorianlondon.org was of the opinion that Reynolds did not
continue to write "The Mysteries of London" after the first two volumes,
as the four volumes of the "Mysteries" written by Reynolds himself are
listed in the catalogues of major British and American National and
University libraries.

One possible reason for this error lies in the fact that the title "The
Mysteries of London" was owned by the publisher, George Vickers, so that
Reynolds, when after writing four volumes, he continued the series with
another publisher, John Dicks, had to change the title to "The Mysteries
of the Court of London" for the remaining eight volumes published until
1856.

And also, after Reynolds discontinued writing for Vickers, Vickers
published two more volumes of "The Mysteries of London", subtitled
"Lights and Shadows of London Life", volume 5 appearing in 1849, written
by Thomas Miller and volume 6 in 1850, written by Edward Blanchard.
(Vol. 5 was labeled "Third Series", Vol 6 "Fourth Series".)
